Guest guest
Lots of shots as a kid--I grew up overseas. Yes, I nursed him. But I think he was a "bottom of the vial" kid at some early point. Barb Re: Re: How old is the "first group" of autistic children? I think that was the year in Ontario they started using the hepB shot on newborns.I will check into this unless any already knows the answer to this.~nmnwvwm <nwvwm@...> wrote: My son was born in 1991. He recieved the HepB shot on the first day of his life. I have since met relatives of four different boys born at that Ontario community hospital within the a year of my son's birth. I also found out that there were a total of 313 births that year at that hospital.Hmmm- 4 out of 313 births....that is one in 78.25 children -- and those four boys are just the children that I know of -- there may be more as I have only a few of the parents of people with children born that year there.Of note -- my son was "stiff" as a newborn -- didn't have the fluid movement that my other children had as newborns -- even his face was "stiff." He made a terrible noise when he nursed as well. None of my other kids did that - and they don;t have autism, and they didn't get the HepB shot.Anyone else see this in their babies? Guest guest
don't know the answer - my son's records (doctor's office and hospital charts) don't show any record of Hep-B at birth - we went thru these carefully. But I don't have a lot of faith in record keeping in general in Ontario - for example, there is no indication on any of his medical records of vaccine lot #'s, manufacturer, etc. Just a date of injection, and the vaccine type given (e.g. HIB). I would be very interested in any more detail about the chronology / use of HepB on newborns in Ontario. > > > > I don't remember my daughter born in '97 getting the hepb at birth. Guest guest
they still vax on day 1, even if you stay 2 to 3 days. I think the best thing you can do is get out of the hospital as quickly as possible after having a baby... If you knew all the stuff they tell us about hospital aquired infections and how crazy bad the nasty super bugs are... ugh... makes my skin crawl. After I had my last child I was out of there less than 24 hours later.... couldn't wait to leave! Re: Re: How old is the "first group" of autistic children? You know I had forgotten about the here's your hat, what's your hurry push from the hospitals back then,

All of my 5 childen were born in Toronto, Ontario but none of them were "offered" the hepatitis B shots as infants, while a good number of my students, who were around the same ages, received these hep B vaccines as infants. The big difference, which was pointed out to me by a teacher candidate (student teacher), was that heptitis B was endemic among certain populations, and that was why our doctors were trying to protect certain groups against hep B, and not worrying too much about other groups. I don't know whether she was right or wrong about this, but what did occur, was that some children in Ontario received the hep B shots as infants, and others did not. Last year, I went through the vaccine records of my students. I found that a lot of them had received hep B vaccines as infants, prior to 1999, when "supposedly" thimerosal-free hepatits B vaccines had become available here in Ontario. That means these children likely had the thimerosal-containing hep B vaccines as infants. Could that be why there are so many in that group who cannot read and write at grade level, despite extra help or intervention? Just wondering, Aasa tmiktliu <rtoni@...> wrote: don't know the answer - my son's records (doctor's office and hospitalcharts) don't show any record of Hep-B at birth - we went thru thesecarefully.
