Dear Ms :

Thank you for that extraordinary piece on the growing controversy over

vaccines and autism. You point out the obvious: We continue to ask those

in charge of the vaccine program if there's a link. It is not unbiased

medical research that provides their response; it's the desperate need to

deny a medical mistake affecting an entire generation of children. Dr.

Fletcher has made an astonishing admission in his remarks. I can't imagine

that the medical community can simply dismiss them and continue to promote

their vaccines.

Here in the United States, vaccine safety concerns are receiving more and

more publicity. We have the most vaccinated children in the world, and

childhood illness rates continue to soar. Serious health problems like

diabetes, cancer, autism, asthma, and learning disorders are affecting more

and more children. A growing number of parents, doctors, and scientists are

questioning the impact of all the vaccinations on a child's immune system

In Britain, the focus of the vaccine-autism link has been the MMR vaccine

which doesn't contain thimerosal (the mercury-based vaccine preservative).

However research is showing that the increase in the number of childhood

vaccines containing mercury directly coincided with the explosion in the

autism rate in the U.S. The live viruses of the MMR given at the same time

as many mercury-laced vaccines, are believed to simply overload a child's

immune system and have devastating effects.

During the past 20 years, the autism rate has gone from one in 10,000 to one

in every 166 children today. Furthermore, one in every six schoolchildren

now has a diagnosis of attention deficit or some other learning disability.

The best our federal health agencies can tell us is that it's all due to

better diagnosing. " This claim is disputed by mounting independent research

that shows thimerosal is responsible for a medical scandal that looms as a

welfare disaster. With eighty per cent of autistic Americans under the age

of 18, the dramatic impact of this crisis will be felt by taxpayers in the

coming years when these autistic children become adults. There are no

studies that have found the previously undiagnosed or misdiagnosed autistic

individuals among the older generations at the rate of one in 166. This is

a disorder affecting the young.

The federal government has never conducted specific tests on the

neurotoxicity of thimerosal, although hundreds of published studies and

documents attest to its extreme toxicity. Our CDC and FDA should be utterly

embarrassed to make safety claims based on such a pathetic history of

oversight. Our federal health agencies are also the ones whose members have

over 700 conflict-of-interest waivers for direct financial ties to the

vaccine makers.

In his recent book, Evidence of Harm, journalist Kirby points out that

" ...many researchers had sent the company [Eli Lilly] documents dating back

to the 1930's, each raising a red flag about thimerosal. " (EOH 207-209).

Mr. Kirby chronologically lists over 70 years of scientific research on the

damaging and deadly effects of thimerosal that was willfully ignored by Eli

Lilly and the CDC.http://www.evidenceofharm.com/ Starting in the late 1980

s more and more vaccines with mercury were added to our children's list of

required vaccines, without any regard for the total mercury exposure

children were receiving. .

Boyd Haley, Phd, professor of chemistry at the University of Kentucky, is an

internationally known researcher and author on the damage from thimerosal.

He recently criticized the vaccine safety claims of the Centers for Disease

Control and Prevention in the U.S.:

" Finally, I find nothing indicating any scientific credibility or knowledge

within the vaccine program of the CDC. They don't even do the rudimentary

testing of vaccines for safety before mandating them on the American public.

It appears to me that the vaccine aspect of the CDC is in the hands of what

I call 'physician administrators,' not knowledgeable scientists. Anyone

with two neurons left to rub together could find massive intellectual holes

in about everything the CDC vaccine administrators and the 2004 IOM

committee states. "

One mother of an autistic son summed it up perfectly when she said,

" This is perhaps such a horrible mistake that maybe the people who did it

can’t come to terms with it.

Everyone needs to wake up and realize what happened. If we had one in 166

kids with leukemia, it’d be on the news every night.”
