Guest guest
Carla, my son had seizures and homeopathy worked. I went into a group called keto cafe and they told me all the side effects of the medicines and I opted for the more holistic approach. For my son it worked. Maybe trying that before the medicine? It can't hurt. Guest guest
Puberty is a cause of seizures too, especially if your kid hasn’t had them before puberty. Guest guest
I had a son seizure for the first time around the age of 13. We have had him on Depakote now for over 15 years and have never seen another seizure. The medication also has helped the violence that he had. I really think that behavioral outbursts can often be attributed to mild seizures, which don't show enough for the average person to detect. My son has autism too, by the way. Guest guest
This is actually common in kids with ASD, to develop seizure activity as they enter adolescence. My brother too started having seizures at 12 years old and we were very frightened the same would happen to our son. Too with my brother the chronic seizures were made worse during heigtened anxiety episodes. It was a little scary and we watched our son like a hawk when he turned 12. He's now 14 and we've seen nothing but have had some other issues due to the increase in testosterone levels. We were also told that this is a very delicate time for all teens, many chemical and hormonal changes. The Autism Society of MI actually held a joint conference with the Epilepsy Foundation of MI a couple of years ago and they may have some of the materials from that conference available. I know one of the presenters was Dr. Luke Tsai who has since published a book on medication and it's use with individuals with ASD. This may help. Too I think it would be beneficial also to seek some methods for relaxation such as massage therapy or yoga. These have helped our son get through some rage episodes he had experienced. We thought those too had come on, rather than going the seizure route his chemical make-up perhaps caused these to occur. After starting this interventions within a month no more incident of the unexplainable rage. Hope this helps, Carolyn P.S. You may want to contact your state's Epilepsy Foundation as well. They may have a referral for a doctor that utilizes alternatives to medication. > > I have a 13-year old son who has PDD/Autism who recently experienced three > seizures since the beginning of December. Guest guest
Hi Carla: The specific carbohydrate diet has helped alleviate seizure activity for some individuals. You can find more information about this at http://www.pecanbread.com/seizures.html . I recall Elaine Gottschall mentioning this at one of her seminars a few years ago.Too bad that she is no longer alive to ask about this. Guest guest
Biotin deficiency might be an explanation. Testosterone exacerbates the effect of mercury. Parents should consider chelation before puberty onset. Hokkanen Minneapolis > > I have a 13-year old son who has PDD/Autism who recently experienced three > seizures since the beginning of December. Guest guest
I have heard that magnesium and taurine are two big helpers. Also, I've heard gfcf can delay/end seizure activities in case you aren't " doing the diet " . HTH, Debi

Guest guest
Carla- I am an occupational therapist that has worked with hundreds of children on the spectrum over the past 23 years - you may want to look into craniosacral therapy for seizures, provided your son is not having intractible, life threatening episodes. Check with Upledger Institute for therapists in your area - probably won't work immediately but CAN stop and/or decrease seizure activity. I think the website is upledgerinstitue.org.
