Guest guest
DOR won't help me because they say that i have the ability to use Outreach so by those means that should be my first option. I mean I understand their reasoning but it is really annoying. I've put in an application for outreach and am still waiting for an answer to it. I think it varies from state to state and how your counselor works and all that. I hope all works out!! hollyrp@... wrote: Preet, I had a driver's eval, but Vocational Rehabilitation paid for it. Guest guest
Preet, You can work to make enough to pay for the evaluation. There are two ways to do this without affecting your SSI: Claim the cost as an Impairment Related Work Expense or Use a Plan for Achieving Self-Support (PASS) This is how most people pay for vehicles and modifications whe VR isn't funding some or all of the cost. Did you work with CAP to appeal VR's decision. Alana
Guest guest
I think I had an evaluation done,I didnt have to pay for it. These 2 guys from VR(I think one of them was the driving instructor)came out and asked questions about my disability, and then I had to do these weird lttle tests(how fast I could circle letters and numbers in order).. Then they took mesurements for my chair. They had to do all this b4 I took the driving exam. well I got a call from my VR counselor a couple days after that, and she said that VR wouldn't pay for a new vehicle and the driving equiptment, b/c it's too exspensive, b/c I would need a newer modle vehicle and I would have to use some very high tec equiptment. I think she said it would all cost about $80,000 or something. I asked her if there were any organizations out there that could help pay for the new vehicle and she acted like she didnt know. I was so upset, b/c my dream was to be able to drive, b/c I'm just really tired of having to depend on buses. I cant do anything, like go out on a satuday night and chill with friends, b/c the transportation company doesnt even run on saturdays, and on the weekdays they stop running after 5 and omg their prices, it cost 8 bucks round trip, 8 FRIGGAN DOLLARS!!!, it's rediculous. So now I dont know what to do > > Hey all, > > So I am going through the process of getting a car but before I can I > need to get a driving evaluation done. Guest guest
Holly, Outreach is the San , CA area paratransit provider. They're huge! I've used them a bit when visiting my family. They're better than most, but still a pain. Alana > > I also hope it works for you! I'm not familiar with Outreach. Guest guest
What if you ask your counselor to review the appeal process with you? That alone might help that counselor reconsider. L Re: Re: Driving Evaluation I really personally dislike DOR. I understand they shouldn't pay for all things and that is fine but I wasn't even asking them to pay for my car, I was just asking for the driving evaluation and that is it. The evaluation cost $300 per hour which i find ridiculous considering I already have to pay 40k+ for a car. How is anyone supposed to get a car ever? It's like they want you to not have the chance at being independent lol. So I totally feel your annoyance at it.
