Your english is pretty good :) As for travel, I've never been to new york

but i assume their subways and buses comply with the ADA (Americans with

Disabilities Act). So I am pretty sure that the buses and trains will have

a ramp and a place to park your wheelchair.

You should ask around here - I think we have a few members here from the New

York area. I do not have SMA but I am friends with a number of people on

this list that have it and I am very supportive of others with this

disability as I am disabled myself (deaf since the age of 12).

Silvia,

That's so exciting! You're going to have an awesome time!

NY subways aren't very friendly. I'm told that some stations are accessible, but

others aren't, so it's best to just avoid them. Busses are perfectly accessible

though, and they're free for you and another person. I stuck to busses, and used

a shuttle to get back and forth from the airport.

You should be able to visit pretty much anything you want. You should definitely

see a Broadway show if you can. Check out 5th Avenue and do some shopping on

Canal Street. Go to the Met. Stroll through Central Park, even though once

you're in, it can be impossible to find your way out. And PLEASE will you make

sure to go to the Carnegie Deli and have the truffle torte cheesecake!! It's one

of the best things that ever happened to me.

Have fun!! :)

Hi! You have wonderful English!

I'm a NY native, born and raised in NYC (though I live in SC now). The subways

were built

many, many years ago and most stations have not been adapted for accessibility.

However, the bus system (which has lines that copycat the subway system as well

as

others) is. Most buses have lifts and areas designated for wheelchairs. You

should be

able to get around just fine if you stick to the bus system. You can get maps

here:

http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/index.html

The subway map shows all of NYC, but there are so many bus lines that they had

to make

5 separate maps - one for each borough. If you plan to stay in " the city "

you'll probably

only need a map for Manhattan, but it never hurts to have them all.

There are all the NYC tourist standards - the Empire State Building, the " Top of

the Rock "

at Rockerfeller Center, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art

and

the Museum of Natural History. I believe all are accessible. My favorite

places are slightly

lower profile - I highly recommend the Guggenheim Museum, which is gorgeous

inside

and out. You can't say you've truly visited NYC without seeing the Brooklyn

Bridge, Grand

Central Terminal or the arch in Washington Square Park. If you're an

architecture freak,

like I am, you'll also be interested in the Flatiron Building, the Lipstick

Building, the Main

Library on 42nd Street, the Chrysler Building and the United Nations.

In fact, take the M15 bus up First Avenue to 42nd Street. That's where the UN

is located.

Then walk down 42nd Street. You'll pass the News Building (it used to be the NY

Daily

News Building) on Second Avenue. The Chrysler Building is next, on Lexington.

Keep

going - at Park Avenue you'll hit Grand Central and, right behind it and

towering above it,

the Met Life Building. Next, you'll hit the Main Library at 5th Avenue. Keep

going through

to Park and then Times Square. Next, you'll hit the Port Authority Bus

Terminal, an

interesting experience, though you might want to avoid it. If you keep going

all the way,

you'll eventually hit the Circle Line Cruise pier on the Hudson. Buy a ticket

and sit back to

enjoy a cruise around Manhattan. It's definitely an experience.

(((HUGS))) and good luck! Wish I were going with you!

:)

Hi,

Thank you all for replays, soon i will arrive at NY and i am sure i

will have plenty to see, i will follow all the advices, including

eating and shopping:p, and i also what to visit all the mentioned

museums and the Statue of Liberty. I also saw that are Touristic buses

mode=101 & Page=SearchByModeCity & Type=CI & TY=CI & SearchName=View+All+City+To

urs & eType=Activities ) so i guess i will take one of that too to take

me everywhere.

With MTA buses i dont know if i can travel for free if i am foreign

tourist. Would be great that, cuz i can spend more on shopping:d.

Anyway thanks alot,

Silvia
