Congrats !! I`ll be praying that little gets wall enough to come

home soon.

- Has Arrived!

Hello All!

On April 5, 2007 at 8:04 AM, Jo Anne came into the world like

a freight train! So here's the scoop:

On April 2, 2007, I went into see my OB for my weekly check-up and

ultrasound. I had been having a really hard time breathing for

several days but I was trying to push through to get her to 34

weeks. My OB decided to admit me to try to get my breathing stable

as a c-section was already scheduled for April 20, 2007 and she

thought I might make it to then if I could get some breathing help.

Little did we know, had other plans.

On April 3, 2007 (which happened to be my 28th birthday), I went into

premature labor with full contractions by 6 PM. Because of my

breathing issues, they were unable to give me anything for pain and

the medicine they gave me to stop the contractions did not work.

They debated many times whether they should do an emergency c-section

or not; I really wanted my OB to do it and she was not able to do it

until Thursday morning. Because I was not dilating, they let me go

on with the contractions and just monitored me.

On April 4, 2007, I woke up and noticed that I could breathe better

but the contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart. They figured out

that she had dropped down and was nearing the birth canal. They did

not want her to get there because it makes a c-section much harder.

They had my c-section scheduled for 7:30 am the next day and, since I

was not dilating still, they just kept watching me.

On April 5, 2007, they took me into surgery at 7:30 am and

was born at 8:04 am and was taken straight to the NICU. She was 4

lbs, 4 ozs and 16.5 inches long. Her final APGAR score was 8 which

they said was great considering she was under the same antistethic

(sp?) I was under. She needed a little help breathing so they had

her on a C-PAP right away but other than that she was much better

health-wise than normal premmies. I, on the other hand, was being my

difficult self apparently :). After they pulled out, my

uterus decided to turn inside-out. My OB had prepared for every

other complication possible except this one because it NEVER

HAPPENS! She said she had only seen it happen once and it was when

she was a student in med-school. Unfortunately, the only way to

correct this issue is to open me up further (my incision was only

about 5 inches to begin with) to pull the uterus out enough so you

can punch-pop it back so it is no longer inverted. Once she did

this, she had to sew my uterus back into place quickly because I was

hemorraging. After that, she got everything else sewed back up and

closed my incision with staples. She also sewed a ladicaine (sp?)

pump into my incision that helped to keep it numb for 3 days while I

tried to recover. Anyhow, what should have taken about an hour ended

up taking almost three hours but my OB did an excellent job with me.

When I woke up in recovery, I was on a vent but I was breathing on my

own and had been. They had to leave the tube in for 2 hours after

the surgery to make sure I could hold my own before the extubated

me. They did not want to have to re-intebate me if I had trouble.

Once the 2 hours was up, they extubated me without issue and I was

able to clear my lungs pretty easily. I was unable to really talk

for awhile because they said that they had trouble getting the tube

in so my throat was scratched and cut up a bit. As a precaution, I

was kept in the ICU for obsevation.

Over the next several days, I dealt with many things that were not

expected. Although I didn't need it during surgery, I was given a

pint of blood the day after surgery due to a really low blood count.

The pain I was, and still am experiencing, is more than I

anticipated. The complication with my uterus and the larger incision

caused the surgery as a whole to be more painful which means my

recovery will take longer. I am home now and slowly trying to

recover. I am on pain medicine, blood thinner injections, and oxygen

support for the next five weeks when I see my OB again. Each day it

gets a little better but it is complicated by the fact that

is still in the NICU. It is very hard to leave her there every day.

She is breathing on her own and we are just waiting for her to mature

enough to be able to eat from a bottle. We are hoping that she will

be able to come home in the next week but it may stretch into the

following week.

Thank you all for your prayers and support.
