Guest guest
Do you have a bed where you can elevate the head side? This could help some. <laurenmarie791@...> wrote: For the past few yrs Ive had a problem with getting chest congestion while I sleep----not every night, and is less frequent if I change positions. I noticed an increase in this when I moved towns and moved home, so I'm assuming its allergies (I have an appt w/ the Dr), but am wondering if it could be something else. It also improved when I got a new mattress for a couple yrs (another connection to allergies?) Guest guest
, I started having a serious problem with congestion at night when I moved out here. My doctor told me it's allergies to the air pollution. It has been so bad recently that I'm growing tonsil stones every week. Luckily I am able to " cough " (more like spit) them out and not have surgery for removal. Here are a few tips she taught me that actually work very well - Never sleep in a room with the windows open. Always use an air purifier in your bedroom (I have two because our room is very large). Flush out your nostrils with warm salt water before bed. It sounds weird, but it really helped a lot. You can ask your doctor for a syringe for this. I thought she was crazy, but I live by it and regret every morning I didn't use my syringe the night before. <3 Kendra > For the past few yrs Ive had a problem with getting chest congestion > while I sleep----not every night, and is less frequent if I change > positions. > > I noticed an increase in this when I moved towns and moved home, so > I'm assuming its allergies (I have an appt w/ the Dr), but am > wondering if it could be something else. Guest guest
Every now and then, I aspirate as I am falling asleep and then have to try to clear my lungs. It's a pain in the *% & #. Sometimes I will need an assisted cough to clear my lungs. It happened several times last week and I was starting to worry but since I've had three good nights in a row, I think it's okay for now. Guest guest
, I wake up coughing and w/some upper airway congestion. Sometimes the post nasal drip was so severe that it caused nausea. I started taking Claritin recently and it seems to help. Have you tried any OTC allergy meds? I too notice my nose isn't as stuffy if I am able to change positions more. Guest guest
well I went to the Dr and as expected I have allergies, and a new surprise---asthma. the dr said it got worse when i moved because i went from a dry to a damp environment--not good for asthma. so she put me on 500mg Advair, Claritin otc, and I'm going to get another PFT in the next couple weeks to see what my lung capacity is and all the good stuff (I already know its low from past PFT's) Lets hope this does the trick, I'm tired of coughing up a lung every morning! > > > , > I wake up coughing and w/some upper airway congestion. The kind with decongestants made it worse. I know this is probably not an option for many of you, but I've found sleeping on my tummy with a pillow length- wise under my torso helps keep my lungs clear at night. It especially helps me cough when I'm sick. Jenn
Guest guest
If I may ........ I too was treated as asthmatic and took drugs to " dry things up " but over time the melds damaged my sinuses; dried them out too much and made them more susceptible to infection. Keep a close eye on things. Angie PS - forced me into the hospital with severe sinus blockage (all my " snot " got hard and packed with no place to go). I took Histminal (sp?) for five years before it went bad. Hopefully toady's stuff is different.
