Guest guest
Hi again, The interview went very well today, the kids did great! Even Harley warmed up to the point of being willing to talk on camera. Harry Porterfield is quite the gentleman, and, once again, I was highly impressed by his warmth and compassion! The segment is scheduled to air during the 5:00 PM news tomorrow evening, Tuesday, November 14th. For those of you who are not local or miss it on TV (and wish to see it), the piece can be viewed online by going to http://abclocal.go.com/wls/. Simply click on the News tab, and go to Someone You Should Know when given the list of options. Thanks again for all your support. SMA and the different organizations were discussed in depth, but we'll see what actually makes it to the air. I'm a little nervous about where this will lead simply because he kept asking if I ever went public with my life story, have I even thought about it, and would I be willing to do so. We shall see... " ABC News Segment " Someone You Should Know " Hi again, Okay, here is a little bit of history that most of you may not know about me. Back in Spring 1992, my boss at the time called Harry Porterfield from ABC News to inquire how he learned of people he featured on his segment " Someone You Should Know " (a special news feature highlighting people who have accomplished a great deal despite a variety of odds). He asked her if she knew of someone and encouraged her to tell him about this person. Unbeknownst to me, she began telling him about me, he requested an interview, and I learned of it after the fact when I was asked of my availability by my boss. In the end, I agreed to meet with Mr. Porterfield, who came with a camera crew to the local MDA Camp (where I was a camper for the week), and we shot the interview on the grounds of Camp Hastings in Northern Illinois. The bit was aired in June of that year, and it was, all around, a cool experience. All these years, my meeting with Mr. Porterfield has stuck with me. He was one of the most genuine and warmest individuals I have ever met, especially within the showbiz industry. Recently I was surfing the net, came to the website for ABC News, and decided to drop Mr. Porterfield an e-mail thanking him for the opportunity so many years ago, for being such a kind person, and providing him with a brief update as to the directions my life had taken over the years. Roughly a week later I received a phone call from Mr. Porterfield, himself, thanking me for my note and asking if I would allow him to interview me again, to do another segment kind of as a then and now. I agreed, and he is coming to my home on Monday, November 13th to shoot the feature. I am not aware, as of yet, when it will air, but I will update as soon as I have that information. Until then, thanks for your continual support. Amy M.
