Guest guest
Hi All, I have a very delicate question. A recent conversation on SMA Friends discussed how some males with SMA or other NMD's arrange to urinate from a wheelchair. I am interested to know if the non- ambulatory women here generally have to be lifted onto the toilet by an aide or if you use a female urinary device. I am interested in this topic because my daughter is in elemenatry school and is currently lifted onto the toilet by her aide. But, this is not going to last long since she is getting over 60 lbs. I have spoken to an adult female we know who has SMA and is over 250 lbs. and works full time outside of the home. She told us she uses a female urinary device at work and has no problems. Unfortunately, this is a personal topic which I could inquire too deeply about. I am curious if someone could explain how this might work. has no ability to stand, lift herself or shift her weight, but it would be a huge benefit for her lifetstyle if there was a way she could go pee by herself or with minimal (no lifting) assistance. Is there a solution? Or, am I dreaming? Thanks,
