Guest guest
Hi Alana, or anyone who is familiar with this: As far as I knew, a person needed to qualify to receive over 80 hours of service to be able to receive the IHSS money themselves and pay people as needed, rather than have one selected PCA who receives his or her own check. Is this still the case or is there another way now? Seems like I might miss a HUGE opportunity by a smidge of " excess money " all because hubby receives some cash to help me live! It is just not right. --------------------------------- Blab-away for as little as 1¢/min. Make PC-to-Phone Calls using Messenger with Voice. --------------------------------- Messenger with Voice. Guest guest
Incase anyone else wanted to know, I asked my Ihss worker about this and she said: a recipient of IHSS needs a minimum of 100 hrs/month and over 20 hours in the area of personal care only in order to qualify for advance pay. In addition, since we are paying the recipient directly, all tax reporting is done on their social security number. So at the end of the year, it is the recipient’s responsibility to report those taxes. We have very few cases with advance pay here and it’s for good reason. Most of the time, recipients of IHSS don’t want to have to deal with tax reporting at the end of the year. It gets even stickier when there’s a situation such as the care provider quitting suddenly because in that event; the money that was paid to the recipient would need to be returned to us (IHSS) or there will be an overpayment.
