Guest guest
Stem cells may be harvested from umbilical cords after birth takes place. So the " Pro-Lifers " need to get a grip on reality. Many of us Texans think Bush is an idiot. Hope he never develops Parkinson's disease! Vicki
Guest guest
You said you would donate your embryos, but the difference is that you can't donate your embryos...unless you're pregnant. An embryo is a fertilized egg, so it's a baby, regardless of how it was fertilized or how old it is. As hard as it might be, here's the definition: Human Definition: A fertilized egg that has begun cell division, often called a pre-embryo (for pre-implantation embryo). An embryo is now defined as a later stage, i.e. at the completion of " the pre-embryonic stage, which is considered to end at about day 14. The term, embryo, is used to describe the early stages of fetal growth, from conception to the eighth week of pregnancy. Bush vetoes stem cell bill as promised Does anyone else think this is bad? I hate our joke of a president mainly because of this! I know alot of people don't feel that way and I'm not trying to start a political argument or debate on this. I'm not political in any way. Call me cruel but there are so many kids that need adopting in the world and he has a fit about using embryos to help find cures for illnesses. I know I would give up my embryos for research and I know of a few other people to do the same. I know I haven't been on here in a really long time but I do still read most of the emails and Mathieu is doing great. He's getting his Kidster Dani in about 3-4 weeks. We wanted it by the time he turned 4 and its close enough. He will be 4 on Friday. Ok Im done expressing myself. Sorry if I offended anyone. Bush vetoes stem cell bill as promised AP - 2 minutes ago WASHINGTON - President Bush cast the first veto of his 5 1/2-year presidency Wednesday, rejecting legislation to ease limits on federal funding for research on stem cells obtained from embryos. " This bill would support the taking of innocent human life of the hope of finding medical benefits for others. It crosses a moral boundary that our society needs to respect, so I vetoed it, " Bush said at a White House event where he was surrounded by 18 families who " adopted " frozen embryos that were not used by other couples, and then used those leftover embryos to have children. Guest guest
I agree, Bush is a joke and he just keeps making himself look worse ... with the stem cell bill, and keeping our troops over seas when we need to worry about our country and our Troops .. we will not have any troops left if this keeps up! Bush will never have my vote! Until he has or know someone close to him or any other higher power has a child with a life threanting illness he/they are just never going to get it! He needs to think out of his box! But I doubt that will ever happen A Disapointed Mom

Everyone is entittled to an opinion and is free to discuss about this matter. If I didnt write about it someone else would have. Guest guest
I agree! Bush's veto of stem cell research is a very sad day for sure. As you probably saw, many Republicans did vote for this bill. Obviously, they disagree with their president. The reason so many republicans voted for this bill is because it just makes sense. I also don't want to appear radical but in my view President Bush lives in a very narrow minded world. He has a difficult time seeing the big picture. I believe his veto will hurt him politically. I hope so. Beth Bush vetoes stem cell bill as promised Does anyone else think this is bad? I hate our joke of a president mainly because of this! Guest guest
He definately doesn't seem to be in kilter with the views of the American public. People want this to happen so we can eradicate many of the diseases and conditions that are currently uncurable, untreatable, or have treatments that are not ideal. Guest guest
We didn't vote for the " shrub " or his Daddy when he was president We made the right decision...Someday he and/or his family may/might need help...I feel sorry when that may/might come.. All he's good for doing is making a fool out of himself just like he did yesterday at the Summit sitting there feeding his face talking to Vice Minister Tony Blair and then " with the microphone open on the table " cusses ( and it doesn't matter if he didn't know there was an open mic or not) ..... sad to say that he is the President of the United States and............that's not the 1st time he's done something stupid. he's done that before....lol.. God Bless those who are over there protecting us....God Bless those who are/will be getting deployed...and Rest in Peace to those who have lost their lives...and God Bless all of the families especially those who MUST go on without there loved ones Everyone is entitled to his/own opinion > > I agree, Bush is a joke and he just keeps making himself look worse .... with > the stem cell bill, and keeping our troops over seas when we need to worry > about our country and our Troops .. we will not have any troops left if this > keeps up! > Bush will never have my vote! > > Until he has or know someone close to him or any other higher power has a > child with a life threanting illness he/they are just never going to get it! > > He needs to think out of his box! Guest guest
I changed my mind on embryonic stem cell research about 4 years ago. I have SMA Type II and my niece had SMA type I and died when she was only 10 months old. What changed my mind was having a child. My wife and I used invitro fertilization to get pregnant. I have a picture of my son when he was a 6 cell embyro. Going through that process convinced me forever that life starts at conception. There's other ways to extract stem cells. But in my opinion, destroying a life for this particular type of research is wrong. > > Does anyone else think this is bad? I hate our joke of a president > mainly because of this! Guest guest
I've never understood the almost visceral hatred of President Bush by the disability community. I am not a fan of any particular politician, but it's quite clear that the Republicans and the Bush family in particular have done more for disabled people than any Democrat. Let's not forget who signed the ADA (the first President Bush!!) The current President proposed No Child Left Behind and has proposed fully funding IDEA, which would both give huge opportunities to disabled children in school. Meanwhile, the Democrats in Congress have obstructed funding of either program. Why? Simply because they don't want a Republican President to get the credit for helping out their traditional constituency. When Bill Clinton was in office, he did NOTHING for disabled children and even rolled back spending on ADA enforcement and limited NIH funding. He got away with this by blaming the Republican-controlled Congress, and everyone gave him a pass. Now, under the current President Bush, programs for disabled children have increased and Federal funding for research on crippling diseases has increased threefold. However, the so-called disability activists protest President Bush like he's the devil himself. Again, I am not a fan of President Bush or the Republicans for a lot of different reasons. But, I know on which side my bread is buttered. Respectfully, > > Yes, he blows along with ALL of his policies. > > L
