Guest guest
Wow, I had no idea what my stats were for my lungs. The last time I had a pulmonary test (the breathing test where you breathe in, out, in, out, in, out and then inhale quickly and exhale hard and squeeze all the air out, out, out, out, out, out ....... till you drop! LOL!) was way back when I was a kid sometime after my back surgery. I never knew my stats then, but it didn't freak my GP out, so I suppose I was " normal " for a SMA II kid. Now as an adult based on my height of 5 foot / 5 foot one, 95-100 pounds and 41 years old my lungs capacity is 28% Is that typical? Who knows, who cares. Maybe for an able-bodied woman, 28% is bad. All I know is my oxygen levels, blood-wise and my sleep quality and breathing behaviour has been unchanged for years except I know I have sleep apnea and been on a CPAP for the last 4 years. No headaches, no gasping for air, breathing the same sitting up or lying down and air is reaching my lower lobes when I breath deep. The only thing I have stopped doing is sing and my blue-balls chamber exercises. Since the resp.dr wants to see me next year and do a comparison, I will increase my efforts of lung exercises to see if I can actually increase my capacity. -- Angie Please visit my favourite websites: for Ford Model A enthusiast http://www.recap.on.ca a memorial website of my father http://www.roybebee.ca The Monarchs (50's & 60's band my Uncle plays in) http://www.the-monarchs.ca a chapter of Model A Owners of Canada Inc http://www.trilliumchapter.ca an electric wheelchair hockey league http://www.cewha.ca
Guest guest
The numbers you get with those tests are supposed to be a percent of normal. If you were 28%, that would be 28% of what it should be for a woman of your age and weight. But I think 28% is ok for someone with SMA. I have DMD, but I don't think that matters for this. I got my ventilator when my vital capacity was something like 6%. I had a BIPAP before that, but I don't think the doctors thought I should be on any kind of breathing support until I was like 10%. Guest guest
Does anyone know what a normal Oxygen level is for someone with SMA? What does it average about. > > > > Wow, I had no idea what my stats were for my lungs. > > The last time I had a pulmonary test (the breathing test where you > > breathe in, > > out, in, out, in, out and then inhale quickly and exhale hard and > > squeeze all > > the air out, out, out, out, out, out ....... till you drop! Guest guest
Normal is all relative. Everyone is different. For what I was told, the blood's oxygen levels for inactive people can range from 80-95 percent. I am 94% and I have type II, age 41 and weigh about 100lbs at 5ft 1in tall. Angie Note: My lung's capacity is only 28% On Saturday 02 September 2006 18:26, Kay wrote: > Does anyone know what a normal Oxygen level is for someone with SMA? > What does it average about. > > > > > Wow, I had no idea what my stats were for my lungs. > > > The last time I had a pulmonary test (the breathing test where > > you > > > > breathe in, > > > out, in, out, in, out and then inhale quickly and exhale hard and > > > squeeze all > > > the air out, out, out, out, out, out ....... till you drop!
