Guest guest
Jenn, It does sound like a gallbladder attack. I went through 2 attacks, and my doctor told me it was gas. Well, the 2 attack got so bad that I ended up in the hospital, diagnosed with gallstones. My pain felt like someone had pierced me through the mid-stomach with a sword. I had muscle pain all over back, especially lower back. The pain would disappear for a couple seconds when I changed positions, but it would reappear quickly. My stomach felt like I had fire inside me, it burned and I was bloated. If I touched my stomach, it was rock hard. And no bowel sounds. When I had my first attack, I didn't know what it was. My granny stayed up with me all night, kept moving me around, she massaged my back which helped a tiny bit, and I kept taking Tylenol3 to kill the pain, but it barely touched it. It finally went away by morning. Two weeks later, it happened again, and it was much worse. I couldn't breathe since my stomach was so distended. It's like I had swallowed a balloon made of steel. Mom took me to the hospital just in time. If I had tried to get through it like the first time, I would have been in serious trouble because this time, I had developed Pancreatitis and was turning yellow. All the doctors were amazed how I could take the pain for so long, my blood count was unbelievably high, apparently no one else they have seen with such serious Pancreatitis, all caused by gallstones. So they put me on a no-fat diet, and scheduled my surgery in May, so I could finish off the semester. I think this happened in March of 1999. With the diet, I had no more attacks. The surgery was done the old fashioned way and now I have a 6-inch incision on my stomach. If this sounds like what you have, don't wait, and go to the hospital now. I hope you feel better soon. Let me know if I can help. Eternal Blessings, Meg. * (My Blog: <http://360./pink-tulip@amerite ch.net> http://360./pink-tulip@ameritec h.net) _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of jennifer Sent: Sunday, February 26, 2006 11:34 AM Subject: Miscellaneous illnesses Last Sunday, I woke up with strep throat. I went to the doctor and got a perscription for Amoxicillin (the pink liquid kind). In general, I don't get antibiotics first thing, even with slight nasal congestion, because I don't want to get some antibiotic-resistant thing going. Plus, they don't do anything for viruses. I know there are some drugs - I think Levaquin and Cipro might be two - that fight both, but I try not to take any unless it feels like congestion is migrating down to my chest. But on Sunday, I knew I needed to go to the doctor because my lympnodes were swollen to the point where if I leaned my head forward too much, I could hardly breathe. Plus strep is running rampant around here (southren Ohio). Then early yesterday morning, I woke up with this piercing pain in my right side, just under and beneath my ribcage. I've had this a few times before, spread out roughly around 6 to 8 month intervals. I used to think my curvature was causing my ribs to puncture an organ or something, but after talking to a few older people with similar attacks and doing some internet research, I've decided they must be gall bladder attacks. Does anyone else have these? It feels like I'm getting stabbed in the side for anywhere up to 12 hours or so. During this time I feel so bloated at times, it hurts to take deep breaths (well, " deep " for me). And I cannot get comfortable in *any* position. Guest guest
One of the symptoms of Pleurisy is extreme pain when you " try " to take a deep breath.. I've had it several times before and it hurts like hell to take any breath.. And it can move from one area to another. When I get it I take Antibotics (Cipro) and prednisone. The prednisone will knock out the pain in less than an hour for me. If it is indeed Pleurisy.. And it is almost always in my right lung which is the smaller compressed lung from the scoliosis. So your pain could be from several different things..I Hope you get over it quickly.. Lainie jennifer <nekrosys@...> wrote: Last Sunday, I woke up with strep throat. Guest guest
Jenn, How well have you been with bowel movements? It could also be gal bladder aches, maybe even diaphram aches. If they persist that long, see a doctor. get x-rays, blood tests, anything. It scares me to read you suffer twelve hours of pain. Guest guest
there are no antibiotics that treat viral infections. Guest guest
Meg - The pain you described does sound a lot like one attack I had over a year ago. I came very, very close to going to the ER, but then it went away. This time was not nearly as bad. If it ever reachs that intensity again, I'll definately seek medical attention! Yikes! Guest guest
Ow, Lori, that sounds awful! Fortunately, this attack was not near as bad as some I've had, and fortunately I have them very infrequently. There have been a couple times my pain has almost been that intense, but I've never actually had a gall stone that I'm aware of - just a terribly inflamed and irritated gall bladder. Maybe that means they are real little stones? > btw are you implying cipro and levaquin can kill a viral infection? I'm not sure if those are the right name, but I do remember when I had pneumonia back in '92, the doctor gave me some drug that supposedly fought bacteria and respiratory viruses. Guest guest
Lainie - It definately wasn't a lung thing. It really only hurt because breathing moved my stomach around. Plus I'm already on antibiotics from the strep. Unless I got infected with something else. Ugh. But the problem went away around 4 yesterday afternoon or so, like these attacks usually do. So I'm better mostly now. Jenn > > One of the symptoms of Pleurisy is extreme pain when you " try " to take a deep breath.. Guest guest
Angie - Actually since I started on Glycolax, perscribed by my doctor last year, my bowel movements have been pretty regular. Thank heavens! Before that I had the worst time with it. When I'd have these attacks, I'd freak out thinking I had a blockage or a perforated intenstine or something. Fortunately, I only get these things infrequently and this one wasn't nearly as bad as usual. The pain location and other symptoms match perfectly with those described on the internet as a gall bladder attack. Guest guest
The awful part was that after 8 hours in the E.R. the doctor hadn't diagnosed it and said " We could send you home with antibiotics or if you really want we could do a CT scan. " Duh...I chose the CT scan and finally got some medical attention. *% & # & \ L jennifer wrote: > Ow, Lori, that sounds awful!
