Guest guest
Several of the 50 lbs-range women on list have had multiple babies, so I think with SMA III you won't confront many problems. But pregnacy is challenging enough without muscle weakness! Good luck! Nick wrote: >Dear Everyone, > Are there any women on this list who have been pregnant and have given birth (natural or otherwise) to a baby, or even muliple babies? If so, what were the greatest physical challenges of carrying a baby to term while struggling with SMA? I suppose it will vary, some will have had c-section and some will have had epidural... but I just want to have some idea of what I could be faced with once me and marry and we begin thinking about starting a family... all responses are welcome. > > >Sincerely, > R. > >
Guest guest
i guess i'm wondering how much bedrest i'll need, or how bad my hips will get as they shift to accomodate a growing baby (or babies). I'm gonna juice all my vegetables, even the nasty ones, but i mix the nasty ones with something nice tasting so that i wouldn't know. Guest guest
Hi , I have SMA and gave birth to my son Max 5 years ago this may. It was very challenging but I had a lot of support and help from my family and husband. At the beginning of my pregnancy I could walk around short distances by using a cane but as my term went further I got weaker and had to stay in my wheelchair. I stayed at work full time up till the week I had my son, my husband would come to work and help me with a blood thinner shot I had to take because of sitting so much I kept swelling up and help me with the bathroom. The Dr.s were going to induce labor a week early but my water ended up breaking on its own, I had to epidurals the first one a student gave me and messed it up and punctured my spine which caused me to go back into the hospital a week later with 106 temp. I had Max naturally 48 hours after the water broke. I still haven't gained back the strength I had before him. All in all when you see your baby for the first time its true that you forget all the pain and know that it was worth it. I know that everybody is different but when you do get pregnant try and stay as active as possible, depending on your strengths the best thing you can do is get in the water and try a water aerobics and eat as healthy as possible that way you can maintain some strength to get through. I hope that this is helpful and good luck with your future family. * Hugs,* Tammy <laotianrose@...> wrote: Dear Everyone, Are there any women on this list who have been pregnant and have given birth (natural or otherwise) to a baby, or even muliple babies? I have a 2 & 1/2 year old daughter and a 10 week old son, both delivered by a planned c-section. My original diagnosis was SMA Type I. My main issue was pain because I had average sized babies in my very small body - 5' & 40 lbs pre pregnancy. I also experienced severe weakness and positioning issues. A bit of advice - have a detailed plan of who will help you care for your baby's physical needs. Guest guest
I have SMA 2, and have two biological daughters - ages 8 and 12. I made a webpage about my experiences if you're interested - http://home.isoc.net/~brokeninside/nekrosys/pregnancy.htm - and I know there is a lot of good info on this in the group archives. Amy, I totally agree with this! Pregnancy is 9 months but a child will need physical care for years on end! Jenn
Guest guest
Hi , I have been through pregnancy twice now and would be glad to offer my experiences. After the birth of our first daughter, I was approached by several women with a number of questions which I answered and saved for future reference. I'll be happy to send you those documents, just let me know if you are interested. Please, keep in mind, though, that pregnancy is a very individual and personal experience. We, as women who have been through it, can offer our stories, but yours might be very different. The most important things to remember are to make certain you have doctors and medical staff that are extremely supportive and willing to listen, and that you have a care plan outlined to detail regarding the care of you and your new baby upon being released from the hospital. While all that is going on, enjoy it because it is amazing to experience! Amy M. SMA and Childbirth Dear Everyone, Are there any women on this list who have been pregnant and have given birth (natural or otherwise) to a baby, or even muliple babies? If so, what were the greatest physical challenges of carrying a baby to term while struggling with SMA? I suppose it will vary, some will have had c-section and some will have had epidural... but I just want to have some idea of what I could be faced with once me and marry and we begin thinking about starting a family... all responses are welcome.
