Guest guest
Good points, but i beiliev wholeheartedly that animals are just as important as people in this world. I mean you never ask a heart surgeon why he's not a brain surgeon. If these people chose to help animals, all the power to them, money goes to waste so much, at least that money was put toward good. Love, Peace and Green Day, Ali + Animal rights verses Human rights I was just watching a deal on animal planet channel and they were talking about how they spent $230,000 to save a 3 strike elderly bear up in New Jersy area. Since he was old and having trouble finding food hes been going into housing areas and hitting trash cans. He was nonviolant, and been relocated twice, so on his 3rd strike he was set to be destroyed. These people bann together to save him and raise 230k for a bear habitate to be built at a local zoo. The zoo admitted that in 5 years was going to add a bear exibit anyways, but they let these people pay for it so they could save this old guy and of course the zoo can save 200 grand. I am all for not hurting animals etc, but it just rubs me wrong that people will care so much for an old dying bear when there is people in their own town they probally step over in the streets and wouldnt ever think of helping them. If we as a nation cant put helping our own fellow man over a few critters how can we ever become a " whole nation " ? I just cant see us " policing " the world when we cant even take care of our own at home first... Just imagine what $230,000 could have ment to the right people. How many people reading this have been denied medical equipment etc because it wasnt in their policy etc. this could have ment that over 100 people got vans they needed. Or 500+ people to get ramps and other accibility issues fixed. Maybe I shouldnt be typing this, its been a long and rough night. I am going to go back to bed, thanks for listening. Guest guest
sorry sorry guess i should have explained. I once read on PETA how to answer the question " Why do you do so much for animals when people need help. " there responce was " People never ask a brain surgeon why he isnt also a heart surgeon. " You cant fix everything in the world. Guest guest
ah...ok,,,yea this is one of those things thats going to vary alot from person to person. The age old question of, " Where do you draw the line? " We all have our favorite animals and reasons for it all. I just feel we shouldnt spead so much monies at times on a few single individual animals when theres bigger causes that could be address. Like that 230 grand, they could have purchased land for a natural refuge, or it been used to improve an area thats already around. That away it would have been an ongoing help instead of a last stop jail before death. I am not one for putting wild animals into little cages for people to look at. Sure we need zoos for different reasons, and I am sure most animals that are raised in there are happy, but a wild free roaming animal now caged up will just end up in the corner with a broken spirit, and see an animal suffering like that is worth than deathe to me. Last month they had a deal about a smaller oil spoil that killed like 12,000 animals, birds, fish etc. They had like 300 that they tried to save and only 12% of those lived and only 2 of those were released back into the wild. They said it cost on average $700 an animal to try to save them. But they were just so sick & died slow long deathes it just broke me up that they didnt just put the poor things too sleep. Granted some of them did look good, but they had injested the oils and/or were soaked to the skin and died of fluid in the lungs. But its one of those things, where do you draw the line. Its the same with people too, when is enough enough? When does quanity out weigh quality? Gosh is my stomache still getting really sea sick from just sitting up right in a chair...I am starting to think the pain killers are causing it to happen. > > > > Good points, but i beiliev wholeheartedly that animals are just as > important as people in this world. Guest guest
This group is for sma-related topics. " Animal rights verses Human rights " is a rather broad topic not directly related to sma. Interesting topic for some but not what our group is for. The group owner has asked in the past that these un-related posts be labeled as " Off Topics " if posted. You just need to pick " OT " in the subject line to indicate it is not related to sma so people not interested can move on. Not picking on you...just a reminder. Guest guest
Sorry, but I disagree. I definitely care about animals. However, people are definitely more important than animals. We obviously are not the same, and were not created for the same purposes. That doesn't mean I support being cruel to animals, but I certainly don't see how they could be placed them on the same platform as people. Animal rights verses Human rights I was just watching a deal on animal planet channel and they were talking about how they spent $230,000 to save a 3 strike elderly bear up in New Jersy area.
