My son does the same because he thinks that the tooth fairy will come more often!

This scares me because Tristan, age 9, pulls on his front teeth with his fingers as if he is trying to pull them out. He will say "loose tooth" as he does have very limited language skills. He must think that because his teeth were loose and fell out when he was younger that his permanent teeth should do the same.
