Guest guest
Per our DAN and pediatrician (Dr. Bob who is also the pediatric advisor for Thoughtful House) whooping cough seems to be epidemic right now. It seems to be especially prevalent in 3 to 4 year olds -- much less in the older kids. Dr. Bob has a lot of unvaccinated kids. Per his secretary, it does not seem to make a lot of difference as to whether the kids were vaccinated or not in terms of whether they get whooping cough or in terms of the severity. Debi, as I mentioned off line to you earlier, my vaccinated just turned 3 year old daughter just finished whooping cough. It is just has you describe, a horrible whoop and then she turned red and complained she couldn't breathe (preceded by a cold). Her entire class was exposed to influenza earlier this year (we think it was an aide who boasted that she had received the mercury free nasal vaccine). The influenza thing was really horrific. No one else in the family got it. It also appears the entire class now has whooping cough. What a year. As for she hasn't coughed in several days now. It lasted from October until last week. For her the coughing was really scary, but all in all, not that big of a deal.
