The close links between Whelan, head of the fake consumer group

American Council on Science & Health (ASCH) and its industry funders:http://www.prwatch.org/prwissues/1998Q4/ashes.htmlEXCERPT: "ACSH also has numerous links to The Advancement of SoundScience Coalition (TASSC), a "corporate-supported watchdog coalitionthat advocates the use of sound sciences in public policy." Like ACSH,TASSC attacks what it calls "junk science" as it defends bovine growthhormone, genetically engineered foodstuffs, dioxin, electromagneticfields and endocrine disrupting chemicals. Like ACSH, it is supported bythe chemical, oil, dairy, timber, paper, mining, manufacturing andagribusiness industries." http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=_Whelan: EXCERPT: In October 1977, Whelan was working on scientific public relations for the Chemical Manufacturers Association<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Chemical_Manufacturers_Association> while still retaining her position at Harvard.

For CMA's offshoot SOCMA (Synthetic Organic Chemical Manfacturers

Association) she began a new subsidiary organisation called the American

Industrial Health Council<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=American_Industrial_Health_Council> (AIHC) which was nominally led by E. Oreffice, President ofDow Chemicals<http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Dow_Chemicals & action=edit> .

AIHC coordinated industry responses to government regulations,

and promoted a series of industry-set criteria for regulating potentially

cancerous materials in the environment. Whelan was judged to be highly

successful in her political lobbying. These activities of the chemical industry were part of an organized reaction

to Carson's book "Silent Spring." Most of the propaganda andlobbying was conducted through PR firm E Bruce on until the AIHCand ACSH took over.
