How much mercury did Katrina rescuers/survivors get?

I don't know about the incident with Dr. Phil, but I think we should all be very prudent http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=prudent as we watch donations and distribution of medical supplies and the administration of mass vaccinations in the wake of Katrina and Rita. Distribution is key. It will be impossible to ever scientifically prove the theory of vaccine induced "Hurricane Katrina Syndrome" because of the exposure to so many other environmental toxins.

This is our first healthcare emergency since 9/11. Much legislation has been passed post 9/11 regarding the State's power to mass vaccinate during a healthcare emergency.

The Homeland Security Act (Signed into law by President W. Bush on November 25, 2002)

http://www.dhs.gov/interweb/assetlibrary/hr_5005_enr.pdf

The bill set up a new Department of Homeland Security and provided for the biggest reorganization in government since 1947. The Homeland Security Act regulates actions to be taken during a healthcare emergency by giving the authority to the U.S. Secretary of Department Health and Human Services (DHHS) to call for universal smallpox vaccination, absent of informed consent, and other broad smallpox interventions with no medical, religious, or conscientious exemptions. Section 304 allows the Secretary of DHHS to issue a "declaration" after concluding that "an actual or potential bioterrorist incident" warrants the administration of "a substance or substances" to "individuals during the effective period of declaration." The federal law also does not preclude the use of US military to enforce the administration of vaccines of other "substances" to individuals as ordered by the Secretary. The bill removes all liability from the pharmaceutical industry and health officials for any injuries and deaths that result from the smallpox vaccine.

The Model State Emergency Health Powers Act: December 2001

http://www.publichealthlaw.net/MSEHPA/MSEHPA2.pdf

"The Act requires the development of a comprehensive plan to provide a coordinated, appropriate response in the event of a public health emergency. It facilitates the early detection of a health emergency by authorizing the reporting and collection of data and records, and allows for immediate investigation by granting access to individuals' health information under specified circumstances. During a public health emergency, state and local officials are authorized to use and appropriate property as necessary for the care, treatment, and housing of patients, and to destroy contaminated facilities or materials. They are also empowered to provide care, testing and treatment, and vaccination to persons who are ill or who have been exposed to a contagious disease, and to separate affected individuals from the population at large to interrupt disease transmission."

New Jersey - Sires signs health powers measure into law: September 14, 2005

http://www.newsday.com/news/local/wire/newjersey/ny-bc-nj--healthpowers0914sep14,0,2173245.story?coll=ny-region-apnewjersey

"New Jersey's governor and health commissioner now have the power to exert authority over local health boards in times of emergencies, under a measure signed into law Wednesday by Assembly Speaker Albio Sires, who is filling in for vacationing acting Gov. J. Codey. The legislation was drafted partly in response to a flu vaccine shortage last year and the 2001 anthrax attacks. But Sen. ph Vitale, one of measure's sponsors, said the Hurricane Katrina disaster underscore's law's importance."

Law increases state power in health crises: September 15, 2005

http://www.nj.com/statehouse/ledger/index.ssf?/base/news-0/1126765970284720.xml & coll=1

"A bill expanding the powers of New Jersey's governor and health commissioner to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies was signed into law yesterday. The Emergency Health Powers Act will allow the health commissioner to seize vaccine stockpiles and divert them to people at the highest risk from a life-threatening illness. The law also will give the commissioner the power to quarantine individuals who pose serious health risks, and to coordinate response to emergencies at all levels of government, according to the legislation...The Emergency Health Powers Act gives state and local emergency response personnel the tools and authority to do whatever's necessary to preserve life."

S.B. 1682 - signed into law by Jeb Bush with 'any means necessary' to force vaccination in a healthcare emergency - pg 6 (May 2002)

http://www.leg.state.fl.us/cgi-bin/view_page.pl?Tab=session & Submenu=1 & FT=D & File=sb1262er.html & Directory=session/2002/Senate/bills/billtext/html/

Florida's Governor Jeb Bush, brother to the President, signed into law S.B. 1262, a bill that gives the State Public Health Officer powers to declare a public health emergency and to order forced drugging and treatment responding to terrorism. The State Health Officer could use 'any means necessary' to force vaccination or treatment on unwilling citizens, if 'there is no practical method to quarantine' such individuals, and 'if the individual poses a danger to the public health.' The degree of force, the assessment of what is 'practical,' and the definition of 'danger to public health' are all at the sole discretion of this Officer. The bill fails to mention smallpox by name, even though it is the only contagious disease that is a credible biological warfare threat and for which a reasonably effective vaccine exists.

Protecting America in the War on Terror Act 0 2005 - S. 3 (January 2005 - pending)

http://www.nomercury.org/science/documents/S_3_War_on_Terror_Act_2005.pdf

"Under the guise of protecting Americans, Republican Senators Frist, Gregg, Sessions, DeWine, , Santorum, McConnell, and DeMint have introduced bill S. 3, Protecting America in the War on Terror Act of 2005, which calls for sweeping changes in pharmaceutical product liability, vaccine regulation and policies, research and The Vaccine Injury Compensation Act. Again, as in the Homeland Security Act, Senate Majority Leader Frist is introducing new legislation amending the National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) in the Senate under bioterrorism legislation. By introducing this bill, Republicans are attempting (again) to merge the autism issue into (seemingly) unrelated anti-terrorism programs.

"Pages 38 - 50 of the Protecting America in the War on Terror Act of 2005 essentially wipes-out and over-rides the rights and enacted legislation of individual States to ban thimerosal in childhood vaccines, countermands the obligation of States to disclose or provide warning concerning the safety of a thimerosal containing vaccines (unless prescribed by the authority of this Act) in any manner, such as labels, labeling, poster, public notices, advertising, or any other means of communication (such as a recommendation from a nurse to a parent to use thimerosal (mercury) free vaccines under any circumstance - this would now be an illegal act), and removes any liability for the mandatory use of the product. To strengthen and protect America in the war on terror.

Page 61 provides provisions for the "Direct Distribution" of the influenza vaccine. The U.S. Secretary of Department Health and Human Services shall have the authority to determine which health care providers should receive priority in the allotment of influenza vaccine and require manufactures of distributors of such vaccine to provide such vaccines to the providers identified under this Act. To strengthen and protect America in the war on terror.

Distribution is key!

County in line for flu shots (October 13, 2004)

http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/tribune-review/health/s_261218.html

"Aventis Pasteur unexpectedly became the sole provider of the vaccine earlier this month when British health inspectors announced that they were quarantining 48 million vaccine doses headed for the United States from the Chiron Corp. plant in Liverpool. Aventis had planned to make about 52 million doses."

CDC, Aventis Pasteur plan targeted flu vaccine delivery (October 14, 2004)http://www.pharmacist.com/articles/h_ts_0646.cfm

"CDC Director Gerberding, MD, MPH, and Aventis Pasteur President Damian Braga have announced a two-phase plan to distribute 22.4 million doses of Fluzone to U.S. providers. Over the next 6 to 8 weeks, the company will distribute 14.2 million doses directly to "high-priority vaccine providers," a group that includes hospitals and practices with a large number of very young patients. In the second phase of the plan developed by federal, company, and state and local health officials, the remaining 8.2 million doses of Aventis Pasteur's influenza vaccine will be directed to areas identified as being in high need of influenza immunizations."

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Application: Nebraska Tackles Flu Vaccine Shortage With GIS (2004) - Just and interesting application as my professional occupation is GIS.

http://www.esri.com/news/arcnews/winter0405articles/nebraska.html

"Nebraska began implementing its HAN several years ago as part of a federal mandate and ramped up the development in 2001 through a bioterrorism grant program from the Centers for Disease Control. HAN is an electronic network that enables the Nebraska Health and Human Services System (HHSS) to communicate with health care providers across the state via e-mail and fax during urgent situations and for informational purposes."

Sanofi Pasteur Donates 200,000 Doses of Fluzone®, Influenza Virus Vaccine to Support Government's Hurricane Relief Efforts: September 21, 2005

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/stories.pl?ACCT=104 & STORY=/www/story/09-21-2005/0004112322 & EDATE=

"Sanofi Pasteur, the vaccines business of the sanofi-aventis Group, is donating 200,000 doses of Fluzone®, influenza virus vaccine to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Foundation to support efforts to help reduce the risk of influenza, its related complications among at-risk individuals displaced by Hurricane Katrina. The donated vaccine has a market value of approximately $2 million. In addition, the company is donating large quantities of its DECAVAC (Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids Adsorbed For Adult Use) for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts."Evacuees get flu and other recommended vaccinations: September 22, 2005

http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050922/NEWS01/509220330/1002/NEWS

"The flu is one ill fortune hurricane shelter evacuees don't need. So state health workers are halfway through an initiative to vaccinate all those housed or working in shelters in Louisiana."

AmeriCares Distributes Free Flu Vaccine (January 2003) donated by Aventis Pasteur

http://www.americares.org/newsroom?id=22

AmeriCares distributed 70,000 doses of flu vaccine free to indigent populations in 20 U.S. states and Washington, DC. The vaccine was donated by Aventis Pasteur, which is located in Swiftwater, PA. The company is the world's largest supplier of flu vaccine.

AmeriCares Receives Significant Medical Donation from Aventis Pasteur: Aventis Pasteur, a world leader in vaccines with the broadest range of products, produces more than one billion doses of vaccines every year to immunize 400 million people around the world. Aventis Pasteur, headquartered in Lyon, France is one of the pharmaceutical activities of Aventis SA, a leading global company in life sciences. For the past eight years Aventis' charitable donations have helped AmeriCares relief efforts around the world. This alliance has enabled AmeriCares to deliver over 50,000 pounds of life-saving vaccines valued over $40,000,000. (AmeriCares Receives Significant Medical Donation from Aventis Pasteur, Friday, 16 June 2000, http://www.charitywire.com/charity18/00813.html)

In 1982, AmeriCares was created by H.W. Bush's career-long associate, C. Macauley, and included the president's brother, Prescott Bush, on its board. C. Macauley, president of Virginia Fibre -- a multimillion-dollar paper manufacturing company went to Yale with Bush and has been his buddy since childhood.

Barbara Bush, the ambassador-at-large for AmeriCares, in her book (Scribner, pg. 384), describes AmeriCares as an "incredible organization" and recounts how she and her husband have seen the impact of the work of AmeriCares firsthand in the U.S. and the far-flung reaches of the world like Croatia, Guatemala and Honduras. The former president was a classmate of Bob Macauley, the founder and chairman of AmeriCares.

Quoting Barabara Bush regarding the evacuees in the Houston Astrodome - September 2005

"What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas," the president's mother said during a tour of evacuation centres. "Everyone is so overwhelmed by the hospitality," she said during a radio interview with the American Public Media programme "Marketplace." "And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this is working very well for them." http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001054719

Some Question on's Katrina Charity: September 9, 2005

http://abcnews.go.com/WNT/print?id=1112518

"Charity and religious leaders are questioning why the Federal Emergency Management Agency designated Operation Blessing as the No. 2 charity for donations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Operation Blessing is the charity founded and still chaired by Pat on...According to its most recent filing with the Internal Revenue Service, Operation Blessing gave more than half of its yearly allocation of cash donations -- $885,000 -- to the Christian Broadcasting Network, or CBN, of which on is also the chairman...As for FEMA, Director Brown says that he does not know who decided to recommend on's charity so prominently."

AmeriCares, in the 1980s was a U.S. intelligence filled and evangelical associated group that flew many times into Central America when Oliver North was smuggling guns and drugs in and out of Nicaragua and Honduras. It has been alleged that AmeriCares was just one of the air services involved. It is also alleged that Pat on's "Operation Blessing" flew at times into Central America in association with AmeriCares. http://rightweb.irc-online.org/groupwatch/cbn.php

Lilly's lifesaving dose of good will: $3.7 million in cash and medicines: September 14, 2005

http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050914/BUSINESS/509140431/1003

"So far, Lilly's Katrina aid -- $1 million in cash and $2.7 million in medications -- includes donations of more than 36,000 vials of insulin, plus quantities of the mental health drugs Prozac, Zyprexa, Cymbalta and Strattera, Sagebiel said."

Eli Lilly and Thimerosal

http://inthesetimes.com/comments.php?id=437_0_1_0_C

The elder Bush sat on Lilly's board of directors in the 1970s.

"Eli Lilly may be determined to avoid liability for thimerosal, but that doesn't mean it has abandoned children with neurological problems. This year, the FDA approved Straterra, a new Eli Lilly drug for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The irony that Eli Lilly profits from damaged children is not lost on parent Krakow: "When Eli Lilly is promoting Straterra on TV, saying up to 10 percent of children can be helped, you realize what we are up against.""

I think we are starting to develop a pattern.

I'm not trying to gossip here; this story makes me wonder, is Dr. Phil experiencing the effects of the vaccinations he received a few weeks ago? Lenny...are we allowed to call dr phil a jerk? thought I would ask before I

Actually I either read or watched a show that Dr. PHil was very hard to work

with and this type of behavior was reported by others in the past...I love

oprah and wonder what she saw in this guy...he also gives poor advice in my

opinion to women that are in DV/abuse situations and I would NEVER want him

to give me advice on my kid that is for sure!

Health Emergency Declared for Texas, La.

Federal health officials declare a public health emergency for areas in the path of Hurricane Rita

http://abcnews.go.com/Health/HurricaneRita/wireStory?id=1153427 & CMP=OTC-RSSFeeds0312

Health Emergency Declared for Texas, La. Saturday September 24, 2005 2:16 PM

http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,1280,-5299653,00.html

He was most probably vaccinated with at least two, maybe more, mercury-containing shots when he went to help/report on the Katrina aftermath. Has anyone calculated how much mercury these survivors/rescuers/reporters were injected with? I'm thinking it must have been at least 50 mcg. Think these people are experiencing "Hurricane Katrina Syndrome" right about now? Of course, most of us here have read this description of mercury poisoning a million times by now (from the generationrescue.org website):...Typical psychological manifestations of mercury poisoning in children may include social deficits or withdrawal, excessive shyness, irritability, aggression, temper tantrums, irrational fears, night terrors, anxiety, depression, and mood swingsWhat a tragedy if these people now have to deal with mercury poisoning on top of everything else they've gone through. It's unthinkable! And on top of that, the kind souls who went there to rescue and provide relief might have to deal with this too. I'm willing to bet my house that President Bush wasn't injected with mercury when he was vaccinated, but I bet all these other poor folks were.--------------------------------------------------------------September 21, 2005 "It is not only the most difficult thing to know oneself, but the most inconvenient one, too," said Henry Wheeler Shaw. So, what's gotten into America's lovable, rationalist, pop culture shrink? "We know those shelters could be a place where respiratory illnesses can easily spread, and if there is any population that deserves first access to the vaccine, it's the people who have already gone through so much difficulty," Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Gerberding said at a news conference. Along with Katrina evacuees in shelters, officials are concerned about people age 65 and older or with weak immune systems, children aged six months to 23 months and pregnant women -- the groups most likely to become seriously ill or die from the flu.

French company Sanofi-Aventis has donated 200,000 doses of flu shots for hurricane victims. The doses are on their way to health departments in areas that are housing hurricane evacuees, Gerberding said.

"Charity and religious leaders are questioning why the Federal Emergency Management Agency designated Operation Blessing as the No. 2 charity for donations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. AmeriCares, in the 1980s was a U.S. intelligence filled and evangelical associated group that flew many times into Central America when Oliver North was smuggling guns and drugs in and out of Nicaragua and Honduras.

U.S. gears up for anthrax, smallpox September 16, 2005

http://money.cnn.com/2005/09/16/news/fortune500/stockpile/

Through Project Bioshield, the government plans to spend $5.6 billion through 2013 building up the Strategic National Stockpile. This includes $1.9 billion on vaccines for smallpox and $1.4 billion for anthrax. Also, hundreds of millions of dollars could be allocated for the development of an Ebola vaccine. "Until recently, the vaccine business was kind of out of favor," said Sharon Seiler, analyst for Punk, Ziegel & Co. "I think it's bounced back with the contracts. People have renewed concerns about global pandemics."

....So who's getting the government money?

On Thursday, the French drug maker Sanofi-Aventis (up $0.34 to $40.66, Research) was awarded a $100 million government contract to produce influenza vaccines at its plant in Swiftwater, Penn. But that pales in comparison to what the government is spending on counter-terrorism.

Sanofi-Pasteur MSD Withdraws Hexavac Vaccine September 20, 2005http://money.cnn.com/services/tickerheadlines/for5/200509201049DOWJONESDJONLINE000447_FORTUNE5.htm

Sanofi-Pasteur MSD, a joint venture between Sanofi-Pasteur SA and Merck & Co. (MRK), said Tuesday it has withdrawn from the market its multi-illness vaccine for children, Hexavac, following a recommendation by the European Medicines Agency. Sanofi-Pasteur SA is the vaccine division of Sanofi-Aventis (SNY). The E.U. regulator recommended the withdrawal due to concerns about the vaccine's long-term protection against hepatitis B. Hexavac is primarily sold in Europe.

"The vaccine's sales represented around 10 percent of Sanofi-Pasteur MSD's total revenue in 2004," said Sanofi-Pasteur MSD spokesman Arne Naveke. He declined to give specific figures.

European drug regulators on Tuesday suspended sales of a pediatric combination vaccine marketed by Merck & Co. Inc. and Sanofi-Aventis over concerns that it might not provide long enough protection against the disease hepatitis B. In a release on its website, the European Medicines Agency (EMEA), the European equivalent of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, said they had suspended sales of the vaccine Hexavac as a precautionary measure. The vaccine, which is marketed through a joint venture between Merck (MRK) and Paris-based Sanofi-Aventis (SNY), is used to immunize babies and small children against diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hepatitis B, polio and haemophilus influenzae type b.

The EMEA said it made its decision over concerns that the hepatitis B vaccine component was too weak due to variations in its production process. The agency said it saw no problems with the other components of the vaccine. The EMEA added that it has asked Sanofi-Aventis to monitor recipients of the vaccine to determine if the children will need to be revaccinated at a later date, possibly in adolescence.

U.S. gears up for anthrax, smallpox September 16, 2005

-----Original Message-----From: EOHarm [mailto:EOHarm ]On Behalf Of corraocrewSent: Friday, September 23, 2005 10:22 AMEOHarm Subject: How much mercury did Katrina rescuers/survivors get?I found this article which describes the alleged incident with Dr. Phil and Shriver last Friday. I'm not trying to gossip here; this story makes me wonder, is Dr. Phil experiencing the effects of the vaccinations he received a few weeks ago? I do mean Dr. Phil, a man who was unknown before Oprah gave him a forum. Now he is behaving like a Diva Deluxe.Last Friday, the good doctor was to speak at an obesity forum being held by California's first lady, Shriver. As a condition of his appearance, Phil insisted the governor introduce him. In between, Arnold Schwarzenegger's calendar filled up and he felt he had to cancel. had Dr. Phil called, not once but twice, telling him the governor could not introduce him, just in case he wanted to back out. The day of the symposium, she arrived to find Dr. Phil pouting. He refused to speak. Finally she insisted he talk to her and he said, "I am not happy." said she was so sorry but they had called twice to advise him of the change. He stormed, "No one called me!" An aide said nervously, "Yes, Phil, they did!"Dr. Phil was still irate: "No one told me!"The great analyst of "getting along" continued to huff and puff. Someone said nervously that perhaps the governor could come by after all. said, "No, we are not re-doing the governor's schedule. Phil, I suggest you just leave if you feel this way."Dr. Phil insisted he had to use the bathroom first. indicated it was down the hall. Dr. Phil said he could not use a public bathroom. said calmly, "Well, that's the only one we have. Use it or not. Take your camera crew and go."After the doctor availed himself of the facilities, he came back sheepishly and said, "I might as well stay now that I am here." told him he didn't have to and she advised him, "You have a bad reputation. My 7-year-old doesn't act the way you do." When Dr. Phil pled exhaustion from being absorbed in the Katrina rescues, told him, "You're tired? How do you think those people feel?"And, just in case you're wondering, the first lady did not leak this exchange. Many people experienced this exchange and it's the talk of California and TV land.I noticed Letterman, of all people, kissing Dr. Phil on the top of his bald head recently. I guess it's easier to get along with the doctor if one stands behind him.ARE YOU ready for the greatest rock and roll memoir ever? That's what Macmillan Publishing is calling the work for which Rolling Stone Ron Wood accepted seven figures two weeks ago. They say the guitarist (and accomplished artist) will concentrate on writing as soon as the ageless Stones finish their current tour. "He remembers everything, the people he met and he has fantastic stories," says lit agent Eddie Bell. He remembers everything? Mick and will be especially interested . I'm not even invited!" Not invited? is such a charming, smart young woman. Let's give the more social Broderick, her husband of eight years, a break. Ask the "Sex and the City" icon to dinner. can stay home with their son, Wilke. ( says she not only loves her hubby but "still likes" him. "We can disagree without hemorrhaging."THINGS ARE hopping down in Austin, the state capital of Texas! It is definitely a town to play in - you may recall the youngest son of Gov. Jeb Bush of Florida, Ellis Bush, being arrested last week for public intoxication and resisting arrest. Austin was also the playground of the Bush twins, before they came of age. They loved Chuy's the great place for Texas margaritas! But Austinites are more exercised over rumors that President Bush might put his presidential library in Austin. (The city already has one presidential library, that of Lyndon .) The University of Texas is offering the president three locations, two in Dallas, but one could be on Lake Austin Boulevard next to the Deep Eddy Cabaret nightclub.Local columnist Kelso says he has trouble with the concept of President Bush having a library in what he calls "hippie dippy Austin," where the motto is "Stay Weird!" He says the idea of a reading library for this president is too much irony even for Kelso. He suggests Bush needs a presidential game room and a big-screen TV. And it shouldn't be built near what he calls "a beer joint." In general, Kelso also says, "The war protests and daily eggings of the library would get old pretty darned quick."(E-mail Liz at MES3838@..., or write to her c/o Tribune Media Services, 2225 Kenmore Ave., Suite 114, Buffalo, NY 14207.)©2005 TRIBUNE MEDIA SERVICES, INC.
