If your child's vaccinations are up to date, they need three shots before going to kindergarten. DPAT, Diptheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis, or whooping cough, Polio, and MMR, Measels Mumps, and Rubella; however, some parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children for fear of mercury levels in the vaccines. Thimerosal is a mercury based preservative that has been used in vaccines since the 1930's. But doctors want parents to know that's not widely used anymore. " Vaccine companies decided to come up with an alternative to preserving their vaccines that was mercury and thimerosal free, " she said.
