" Vaccines are essential to maintaining good health, " said

pediatrician Dr. Joan Connell.

If your child's vaccinations are up to date, they need three shots

before going to kindergarten.

DPAT, Diptheria, Tetanus, and Pertussis, or whooping cough, Polio, and

MMR, Measels Mumps, and Rubella; however, some parents are choosing

not to vaccinate their children for fear of mercury levels in the

vaccines. Thimerosal is a mercury based preservative that has been

used in vaccines since the 1930's. But doctors want parents to know

that's not widely used anymore.

" Vaccine companies decided to come up with an alternative to

preserving their vaccines that was mercury and thimerosal free, " she said.
