- Is there a connection between the pre-term labor drug Terbutaline and autism? To find out additional information about this controversial issue, listen to AutismOne radio at http://autismone.org/radio/ this Tuesday, August 23rd at 10:30 am Eastern Time. Teri Small interviews Dr. Larry Kaplan to discuss this off-label drug prescribed for pre-term labor. Hear the facts about maternal, fetal, and neonatal side effects, the s Hopkins study of fraternal twin pairs, and the Duke University study.

In addition to the Terbutaline issue, Dr. Kaplan discusses exciting news about the USAAA conference. Also, during the interview, learn how to develop a parent-physician relationship to improve outcomes for your children from the new book, " Diagnosis Autism: Now What? 10 Steps to Improve Treatment Outcomes: A Parent-Physician Team Approach. "

Excerpts from the interview will be posted on the USAAA web site later in the week.

TIP of the week:

Monitor and chart your child's development. The first step to a parent-physician team approach is to provide your doctor with a thorough record of your child’s development. In order to present your observations and concerns to your physician, keeping accurate records on a continuous basis is essential for accurate diagnosis and early intervention treatment. Listing behaviors and traits of your child is essential for proper documentation. Monitoring your child’s development is nothing more than a daily system of tracking these symptoms and behaviors. (Excerpt from Diagnosis Autism: Now What?)

Quote of the week:

Observation is activity of both eyes and ears. — Horace Mann
