Guest guest
Is a cough assist used on a daily basis? I never need to cough unless I'm really sick, which thankfully is hardly ever. I use a CPAP because of sleep apnea and ever since I've used it, my number of infections dropped dramatically. I can't cough worth a damn, but we found Will laying on top of me makes for a productive cough when I'm sick. Amy Wife to Will 11/3/95 Mama to Olivia Isabelle 9/18/03 - she's two! Guest guest
Amy, I think it depends on the person's resp status and amt of secretions. I am very dry and can cough pretty well still. tho cannot cough his secretions up anymore and has ALOT. He does it at least 3x's a day and prn. We actually take it everywhere we go just in case he has an attack. Kimi In a message dated 9/20/2005 9:44:34 P.M. Guest guest
I lay down and with Doug standing next to the bed, on my right, he lays his forearm across my stomach just below the ribs as close as he can get to the edge of my ribs without pushing them. His hand then curls underneath my left side; his anchor so he doesn't slip/slide when he pushes. Then we time it ... 1 - , 2 - I breathe in as much as I can then 3!!!!! I exhale, he pushes downward towards the bed (no upward thrust). Oh, his free hand lays just to the right of my " boob " a little beneath the armpit area and when he pushes on my gut his hand squeezes to the left with a little jiggling action to aid any goobers up & out! I don't think I could survive if my husband laid ontop of me! He's 6.4 " tall and weighs 220lbs!!!!!! Glad it works for you Amy. Hey is that how he helps you during your birthing deliveries! LOL! If I have to cough, I say " I need to be squished. " I remember once upon a time I'd have my friends literally sit on my chest and bounce up and down when I needed to cough. He doesn't put his full weight on me, though. And heh, I wish he could help me deliver. It *is* going fast. I won't lie - this go around has been worse than with Miss O. I'm pretty much in pain constantly now, having a hell of a time sitting and just feel exhausted. I'm ok, though breathing-wise so we'll keep going til he's well done. Amy Wife to Will 11/3/95 Mama to Olivia Isabelle 9/18/03 - she's two!
