Guest guest
I don't mind your asking at all. h had outgrown her home stander (it was midevil anyway!) and was standing at school daily. When we moved from KY to NC we obviously had to change schools and docs. The school in NC couldn't accept the statement from our Vanderbilt docs and needed one from NC. He refused to give it and said that it would do more mental harm than physical good. By the time I got approval to take her to another ortho we were on orders to move back to Ky. Normally I wouldn't have taken no for an answer, but we were in the middle of other, more pressing, issues with h. This was all around the same time that she was diagnosed with failure to thrive (right before she turned 7) and had her g-tube placed. She also had some major respiratory issues at that time, before we switched from c-pap to bi-pap. We were doing 6-8 pneumonias a year on top of other various colds that were kept from turning to pneumonia. I just didn't have it in me at the moment to fight over standing when her health was so poor. My goal was to get her to gain a little bit of weight (at least past the malnutrition) and get her lungs back to a healthier state and then work out the ortho issues. Hugs Jeni P.S. do you have a pic of the knee splints? Are they uncomfortable for him to sleep in? Bettylou Ross <eross@...> wrote: Jenn, if you don't mind my asking, how did this happen? I can't imagine our orthopedist withholding (or imagining he could withhold) permission for this. Bernie stands daily but still has knee and hip contractures, by the way. We've been using fancy night splints on him for a month which are actually helping, though. But I think the standing helps with other stuff like bone density and digestion.
