Guest guest
, Speak with your neurologist. I have SMA and, several years ago, a neurologist told me that my chances of having a child with SMA were not higher than anyone else's. Unfortunately, I never married or had kids. Guest guest
seek the guidence of a genetic counselor. sma is recessive so ur partner would also have to carry the gene. ur child though would be a carrier and end up w/a chance of passing it on to his/her children. kimi
Guest guest
, if you would like know the odds of having a child with SMA. I would suggest a carrier test for your close friend. If she is negative for the gene then your chances are better than if she has the gene. 95% of individuals with SMA has it because both parents have the gene, the other 5% have a mutated form of the gene which could be just from one carrier not sure on how accurate that is. If she tests postive for the gene then you know you have a 1 in 4 chance of having a child with SMA.
Guest guest
All of your children will be carriers despite the woman's genetic makeup.
