Hi there! You're doing a great job getting this thing organised. Well done.

Just one more.....

I know you've already got 'forceps delivery' .....

but does 'being turned inside, with forceps, presumably by neck/head,before

a forceps delivery' count as an extra one. It certainly was memorable for us!

Look forward to seeing final poll

Best wishes .

Sorry, just thought of one more we've had.

earlier development of motor skills in hand/arm on torticollis/flat spot

side, presumably because that's all he could see for first few months.

It started to even out at about 4 months.

Thanks

Hi Group!! I am new to this list and just learning about the treatment options for plagiocephaly. I have 7 month old twins and Twin A has "mom diagnosed" plagiocephaly. I diagnosed it because our pediatrician insists it is not anything that won't correct itself and won't recommend treatment.

This list gives me the complete checklist as we visit our first specialist this week at the Cleveland Clinic. We are researching the helmet (which can be done here in Cleveland) or the DOC band (which would take us to Chicago - 2 hrs away). I would appreciate any comments/questions/advise you have to offer.

has several of these situations and we are going to fight to correct the shape of his head. I have just scratched the surface of this resource, and I appreciate all of you sharing your experiences.

Thanks,

Sue,

I spoke with Cleveland over the phone last week and was very impressed with

them. They have a patent on their particular helmet and it sounded like a

very good option. We are in MI and Cleveland would be a 5 hour drive so we

are talking to UofM first this week and then will consider if we need to talk

with Cleveland of the folks in Chicago at Cranial Tech. I'd be very

interested in what you find out in person in Cleveland.

Good luck!

Hi Sue!

Glad you're here! We are getting quite a collection of crazy Mom's who decided

to pop out a couple kids at once, so you're in good company ;)

It will be hard for anyone here to tell you the DOC band is better then the

helmet or vice versa. Helmets vary so much between makers! I can tell you,

though, my daughter, Grace, has had pretty good luck with the DOC band. We go

to the Oak Brook, IL clinic. It's about a 3-hour drive for us. It's not too

bad, just check out a couple books on tape from the library, and pack some

cheerios for Jonathon and Tylenol for you, and you're off! The only bad thing

about driving that far is the price of gas (!) and I have to miss a day of work

every other week.

Grace could have gotten in to be cast the very next day! Except, if I was going

to use my insurance, I needed a letter saying they would cover it. That took a

week of constantly badgering them (it didn't even require preauthorization -

they were just slow). SO, I pretty much said to the insurance people (very

nicely, of course) " Grace has an appointment on Friday, I need a letter stating

the band is covered by then. " The appointment was penciled in, but they didn't

need to know that. They wanted photos and a letter from her cranio doc. But,

they accepted faxed photos, so we didn't have to wait on the mail (yay!). Then,

CT accepted a faxed copy of the letter from the insurance, saving time again.

So, we did make our Friday apt.!

You just have to remember, don't believe your insurance rep when they say,

" she/he is faxing it right now. " If you can't stay on the phone until it's

faxed, have them call you after it's gone through. I was told for 2 or 3 days

and several times a day, " She's walking to the fax machine now, I'm faxing that

right now, She's going to fax that first thing in the morning. " Ugh.

well, in my case, my brain is numb already *grin* ( thanks to a nasty case

of bronchitis and less than normal sleep lately...) -- but you are right,

and I think your original categories cover it.

By the way -- about how long did it take for the Chicago Clinic to schedule

you for the casting once you called them? Did they have to approve your

insurance first? About how long did that take...? (nosy, nosy, I know...

trying to figure out what type of time-line we might be on).

" Flat Spot on Right Posterior Side of Skull

Flat Spot on Left Posterior Side of Skull "

I thought that would cover it. Should I reword it?

well, in my case, my brain is numb already *grin* ( thanks to a nasty case

of bronchitis and less than normal sleep lately...) -- but you are right,

and I think your original categories cover it.

By the way -- about how long did it take for the Chicago Clinic to schedule

you for the casting once you called them? Did they have to approve your

insurance first? About how long did that take...? (nosy, nosy, I know...

trying to figure out what type of time-line we might be on).

I was trying to get around saying " Right Posterior Occipital Positional

Plagiocephaly or Left Posterior Occipital Positional Plagiocephaly " .

Somewhere

about the middle of that your brain starts to go numb. :)

pediatrician or from the crainial facial folks, or nuerosurgeon?

Thanks. Robyn

Grace had a rx from a Craniofacial Plastic Surgeon. She was referred to the Cranio doc by a doctor who ended up becoming her Pediatrician (her GP at the time poo-pooed me once too often).

Kendra, haven't you figured it out by now? I just make that stuff up! ;) Actually, I didn't even know it had a name until I ran across it the other day in a listing of dysmorphisms (deformations).

IUGR is intrauterine growth retardation. It's where the baby's growth slows down for some reason. Oftentimes they don't know why it happens. It can lead to a low birthweight and failure to thrive. I've actually read (and unfortunately experienced) that great stress might create a situation where IUGR happens.

OK, this is the list I'm going to use for the Poll. Once I create the poll, I can't alter it without losing everyone's replies. SO, could you all peruse this list and let me know if I left something off? Or if something doesn't make sense?

Robyn,

I got a Rx from the osteopath my baby goes too. The pediatrician and the

cranial facial expert both thought the other should write it and so neither

did! Sigh...
