Guest guest
I took it once as I am now allergic to sulfa drugs. I did fine and it took care of my uti. Guest guest
hi jenny, i have sma2 and am 38. i get severely debilitating uti's all the time. they started in early childhood, though, weren't severe as they are now. i restricted fluids for 30 years because it was difficult to pee. this is a common factor. i now have kidney stones as a result of restricted fluids and calcium loss through my urine - osteoporosis. the stones harbor bacteria, are difficult to remove, and grow back easily. muscle weakness, despite now having a catheter, makes it difficult for my bladder to fully drain without being squeezed manually. my niece, sma2 - age 11 - no catheter, has this problem, too. a bladder that doesn't drain enough can cause uti's. children, especially girls because of their shorter urethra, can be more susceptible to uti's. find out if the contaminating bacteria is ecoli. this is true 80% of the time. eliminate ways feces may be exposed to the urethra. sex is a contaminating factor for sexually active women and teens - condoms and clean hands/genitals helps. always wipe front to back only once with the same fabric or tissue. wash and dry the area with fresh towels only. prevent kids' fingers from touching feces. keep diaper as clean as possible. drink lots of water, not sweet stuff. only treat infections with antibiotics known to kill the existing bacteria - always have them culture the urine - results in 2 days. see an infectious disease specialist sooner rather than later if improved hygiene and increased water intake doesn't work. i hope this helps! alana At 05:26 AM 12/17/2004, you wrote: >, >Hey my name is and I was wondering what is the reason for your UT >infection? Guest guest
I also started out with uti when I was 3, and again when I was 7. I didn't have any problems for 20? years. I restricted my fluid in take while away from home but paid for it in the end. I got to the point my bladder no longer works properly. I now use a foley cathater because either I can't hold or void . I'm basically getting uti's from the cathater. It doesn't matter how much I drink now whether it be water, soda, or cranberry juice I'm still getting them. I'm at the point I could just scream. I've been hospitalized several times last year that I had a pic line put in for iv antibiotics. I still have it, well I replaced it but they won't remove it because i've used it so often. Also if they needed quick access to my veins they probably be out of luck. I think what's really put me over the edge was I was in the hospital in September and developed MRSA an infection which is usually contracted in the hospital and is resistant to most antibiotics. I was in an isolation for 10 days. I think the nurses wanted me to remember my stay because they broke my leg in 2 places while transfering me. After going home I found I had developed yet another uti that again is usually contracted in the hospital. This time I stayed at home. I haven't been infection free since September. I make sure all precautions are done with my cathater but it's not working. I drink plenty of water, clean the area properly, etc and still get them. Anyway now i'm on NITROFURANTIN for 3 months hopefully this will help. I still can't figure why my neurologist said not to take it. But yesterday I contacted our new neurologist and she said she never heard of it being toxic to SMA patients. Geeze if this works i'll be both happy and furious. Happy that it worked but furious to think how much i've suffered needlessly over the years. I can't have a superpubic, or at least they don't want to do 1. I don't do antistia ( can't spell ) very well. I've developed phnumeia every time i've had surgery. I also have had several complications such as tachacardia, irregular heart, heavy bleeding, and several others. Also having scoliosis they say may make placing the superpubic harder to place and then they can't guarantee it wouldn't leak a lot.
