Guest guest
I never have had a male pca, but have had male nurses. i have often been surprised that male nurses are better at transfering, vent problems, and just physically ready for ackward transfers. the only problem i've had w/one male nurse is his male ego thinking he knew everything and did not have to follow the agencies rules for paper work/orders/meds. as for the sexual tension it really depended on the situation or prior conversation. i seem to be open when it comes to talking about sex and relationships so i sometimes made things ackward. my nurse and i went across professional lines in that i knew about his personal life, he knows about mine, we met " off duty " for dinner and to haNG out. this wasnt b/c he was male, i do this w/many nurses regardless of sex. i know many are against making things personal, which yes i have gotten hurt, but its hard when they are here 24/7. all in all i do not mind opposite sex nurses/pca's. as long as u can be open and everyones comfortable kimi
Guest guest
Some of my best PA's are men...gay, straight, all occupations. At first I was uncomfortable, but only once in 13 yrs. was it sexually loaded (I knew better than to hire someone I had the hots for). I like that they're usually much better at transfers, and if I must fly I hire male PAs only for those harder transfers and pushing broken wheelchairs and lifting heavy batteries. It's all very practical work, though, so if you're not generally body shy and you hire a man who's not generally body shy, you can focus on the practical tasks at hand in a matter-of-fact way and verbally instruct as you go and the comfort should ease in.
