Guest guest
, my husband, and I are planning to attend the Conference. My Dad lives nearby in andria, VA, so we can visit him as well. It's about a 1,500 mile road trip from here, but we'll stop in Nashville along the way to sightsee. Then, on the way back, we'll swing by my uncle's beach house on the Carolina coast and stay a few days. It'll be a blast! Hope to see y'all in D.C.! Guest guest
i'd like to go, because it seems like a good clearinghouse for information, and a good way to exchange ideas with folks. since i don't fly, i'll wait 'til the conference is out west more. i, too, don't like the newsletter much; doesn't foster a sense of community. but i like fsma's web page. alana At 06:41 PM 11/10/2004, you wrote: >The annual SMA conference is coming up this year in Philadelphia. And I'm basing my judgement of FSMA on that mostly, since that is what I know of them. I've always felt that the newsletter is very pesimistic and sad. I've always tried to give my daughter hope and am worried that the conferences are too much like the newletter. My daughter has never asked me, nor have I offered anything about the " life expectancy " or the way that SMA progresses. She thinks (and who am I to say not) that her life will always be as it is now. Any thoughts or opinions? I have been going to the FSMA Conferences since 2001, and I have found them everything BUT pessimistic and depressing. I think it is the one place where people, especially kids, with SMA feel completely " normal " and are the majority. It also gives those afflicted with SMA and/or their families a chance to meet up with others, share their experiences, learn from one another, and develop relationships that otherwise would never happen. I would recommend it anyone who wishes to broaden their SMA community/family. Amy M.
Guest guest
Amy - Well, if Emili goes to summer camp in PA, we might be roaming around that state in July. We could definately try to hook up then. Money's ubber tight right now though, so who knows? We are back on 'college student' finances now, but this time with kids. Urg! What kind of seminars are at the conference?
