Guest guest
Hello again to you all Thanks so much to those who sent messages and questions to me. I hope the following will answer your questions... I am 27 years old and live in Cambridgeshire, England. My husband and I have chosen not to know the baby's sex until the big day! It will be a suprise! My SMA type II effects me a lot physically. It was diagnosed when I was about two years old, though mum noticed some of the signs before then. I use an electric wheelchair and have limited muscle power. I can't stand or walk at all and have to use a hoist to transfer. I have contractions mostly in my knees and hips. I need quite a bit of help with personal care and physical activities. I had the first two rods put either side of my spine when I was just 8 years old and had to have two more put in at the top of my back when I was 15 as I had grown above the original ones. Apparently when I was 8, I was one of the youngest at the time to have the procedure done. My back is not straight and I also have a twist. As for my lungs I have been extremely lucky. I haven't had many problems with them compared with many of my friends with SMA who are quite prone to chest infections. I don't know whether all the singing and vocal excercises have helped over the years! I have been singing since as early as I can remember. I was also a smoker for about 8 years but fortunately I managed to give up last year. I have been a bit breathless again today though I know it is common with pregnancy anyway. I will discuss this with my Dr at the clinic on Wednesday. Well, I must go for now as I have to go on a tour of the maternity hospital tonight. I have put a photo of my husband, Eddie, and I on the site. If you have anymore questions, please just ask. Thanks again. It's nice to hear from you. Guest guest
i have a question for you, how much space do you have from the bottom of your rib cage to your hips.....this question also applies to the other women who have had babies. Also what is your weight....? thanks will
Guest guest
There really isn't all that much space between my rib cage and my hips - one my right side there is 4 inches tops. Before my spinal fushion, my rib cage literally rested on my hip on the right side. With my second baby, she seemed to make room by growing more out to my left instead of forward. I still - 5 years later! - have an extra little pouch there that looks kind of odd. I am average weight for my height though, perhaps even a bit overweight. I am 5 ft tall at the most and weigh about 110lb. I'm dieting eternally. Sigh... Oh, and my lung volume was/is horrible, although I haven't needed bipap or anything like that yet. Guest guest
Hello , I am Gunn, a 23 years old girl from Norway. I have SMA II, and like you I was diagnosed at about 2 years of age. I've been following what you have been writing about your pregnancy with great interest as my husband (who's english, btw) and I hope to have a child of our own someday. Physically we seem to be pretty similar, but I am heavier than you. I've always had a weight problem and it is very, very hard for me to lose those extra pounds! I have a few more questions regarding your pregnancy. First of all, have you been needing to use the toilet a lot more than usual? For me at least, having to pee every two hours or something would be really inconveient, so I just wonder if you had any problems with this and if so, how you are dealing with it? You mentioned that you use a lift for transfer. When you go for checkups, how do you deal with transfering? Did the doctors have any worries about the rods in your back and your pregnancy? What are your plans for caring physically for the baby when it is born? Have you got any special equipment to help you out or any modified things to make it easier for you? Thank you so much for sharing your experiences!! Gunn (aka Misty)
Guest guest
Will - > how big were your babies when they were born? My first daughter was 7lb 4oz. My second was 6lbs 4oz. > and where you able to keep them full term? Yes, they were both born by scheduled C-section around the 39th week. > did you have any problems with your legs during your pregnacy? Not anything unusual. I wore anti-embolism hose with my second daughter & it helped keep swelling down.

Virtually none on the left side, maybe two inches on the right side. I curremtly weigh 75 pounds, while it is estimated that I was about 55 pounds when I got pregnant. Amy M. Guest guest
I had to refer to an online conversion site to find out, but your right - 50 kilos. According to charts though for my height, I'm supposed to weigh 90lbs or 41 kilos. So for my height I'm overweight. Sigh... Jenn > Hello , > > You mentiond you weigh about 110lb, but wouldn't that only be just under > 50 kilos? Or am I way off here?
