Guest guest
If they don't, they don't. The media campaign was designed to run completely on grass roots activism. That is what is so great! We told the WH that we could reach all the other families without autistic kids in our neighborhood. If they never run in magazines or newspapers or show up on TV that is fine...as long as parents like you are printing them off and educating all the people you can come in contact with. Word of mouth is strong!!! National media is going to be much harder to turn in this battle. That is why we sent out an alert early this week to bring the focus back to the local level'. When all of their affiliates are running stories that say there is a connection, they will be more apt to turn the tide. There are thousands of affiliates across the United States. We need to all hit them with the ammo that we have. We are all articulate and we can pull it off (looking calm and not like we have a gun to our backs...Dr. TJ had some amazing posture tonight didn't he.) Take it back to the local stations and get them to understand that the issue is not necessarily about vaccinating but about not using mercury. They will get the stories on the local news and in the local press and on the local talk shows and the national story and national media will feed off of that. Fox 5 NY did an exemplary job of doing just that last night. There is a goldmine sitting at our feet to get this story out but it has to be taken off of the national press and put right back at the base of grass roots. If we spend the next 2 weeks working to hook stories on all affiliates in our local towns, in our local newspapers and on our local radio stations...the buzz will be there...and we will be able to have a more balanced view. The local Little Rock, AR station isn't going to get a CDC official on the television spouting some sort of pabulum puke. Neither is Tucson, AZ, neither is good old Baton Rouge. They will get some old as dirt pediatrician to talk about the good old days and some incredibly smart articulate parents who can counteract everything they say. So, if you need to send a note to TJ to clear your heads...do that. Send them a copy of your favorite ad and the MSDS safety data sheet and everything you can find to get their fax machines running out of ink and paper. NOW is the time to send them something after the story has been done and been done with that sort of slant but then let it go. This is a battle. Yesterday our side won in the media and they lost. Today we took a hit. So reach down, grab those bootstraps and lets roll guys! Burn up the phones (NICELY) tomorrow with your local affiliates ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, whoever will bite. You have the stuff to craft a great piece in your hometown STARTING with you passion. Bring that along with the UA ads, GR ads, letters to the President, and letters to Congress. We will have another action alert coming out tomorrow about local tv/newspaper press with a new angle to pitch...hang in there...be thinking tonight. We can do this! Guest guest
What if we each sent an email to ABC News, which read simply- I believe giving mercury to babies on purpose is stupid. Guest guest
We should also send them Eli Lilly and Merck's own Material Safety Sheets for Thimerosal. It's toxic for the environment (should absolutely not be allowed to enter the sewage system), should only be handled with gloves/hood/goggles, is mutagenic and causes central nervous system damage, just to mention a few.... After reading these I'm thinking who were all the folks who developed these and then said, " Oh, but it should be fine to inject into infants " ! > > If they don't, they don't.
