Guest guest
Senator Dodd also mentioned the " vaccine safety databank. " I believe he's refering to the VAERS database. (He mentioned that the IOM had complained about it.) He stated that " they " are sending a letter to the CDC to see if they can " put some heat " on this issue. _____________________ > I was blown away by him. Imus didn't even bring up the thimerosal issue. Dodd did it himself and went on a bit of a rant himself. He had obviously been briefed for the show extremely well. He said he was very impressed by the Kennedy Jr. article and said he is going to push for senate hearings on this.
Guest guest
: There are two databases in play: VAERS = Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, and has been accessible to qualified researchers for a number of years. The Geiers have done epidemiological studies with it confirming a strong correlation between thimerosal and ASD's. Dodd was most likely referring to (and I heard him this morning too) to the VSD = Vaccine Safety Datalink, which used to be controlled by the CDC, was funded mainly by taxpayer dollars, and was the basis of the Verstatten Generation Zero analysis that sparked the Simpsonwood meeting. Since Simpsonwood, only one pair of independent researchers have been allowed access to the VSD--the Geiers--and that was done because of Congressional pressure from Weldon. The Geiers were extremely restricted in what they could do; nonetheless, their published study contradicted the CDC's/Verstatten report which showed no correlation. An IOM follow up meeting to its March 2004 " no link-spend money elsewhere " report took the CDC to task for not allowing independent access and urged the VSD to be opened to qualified researchers under conditions that would protect the confidentiality of the HMO patients whose records make up the database. The openning of the VSD to independent, neutral third-party verification has been one of the main talking points by Kirby in his appearances. He's used it masterfully (like a surgeon's skilled scalpel?) and no one from CDC, FDA or AAP have been able to offer any sensible response to his challenge. Their failure to do so has fueled the " cover up " ideation. One last fact: the datasets on which the published CDC/Verstatten study based its conclusions have gone missing and are suspected to have been destroyed. In either case, the missing datasets constitute a violation of a Federal document protection act, and that is why the IOM recommended that some CDC folks retain legal representation.
