Guest guest
Yes, just kidding, would'nt do that to my child, but can you just picture it!?!?! Maybe then they would understand what our kids really go thru with no interventions! I am sooo tired of explaining why the mini m & m's the school has been giving her reason why she has been hitting and bitting herself for the last month! No it is not a behavoural problem, its a medical problem!!! They just don't get it! But then again and I did'nt either until we went to disneyland a couple of years ago and gave her a GF/CF vacation... took a couple of days to work its way back into her bloodstream, but needless to say we went back on the diet when we got home. So many of our kids are so high functioning and or well behaved that alot of people don't get the problem... The kids are behaving well BECAUSE of all we do! Guest guest
, Sorry it took so long to respond...just now catching up on my e-mail and still having DSL problems (sitting on my front porch to send this because it is the only spot at home that my PC card will get a signal). Ugh!! Sometimes, " technology " is a real pain! Anyway... Please put NoMercury on your list. We are happy to work with any and all groups to help our children and positively resolve this crisis. We may be tucked away here in the Mid-West but we would be honored to join our voices with others to make a difference. Alan D. , M.D. Lujene G. Guest guest
I'm a bit late on this but wanted to add my $.02. I definately agree that we (biomedically minded people) need to get together and stick together. A-CHAMP is a must! I wanted to share this with you since the type 1 diabetes people were mentioned. I have a daughter with type 1 diabetes so I can tell you that when the kids get up to make their speeches, etc. it is very powerful. People cry, it is quite moving. Check this out about the upcoming Children's Congress for the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation): On Tuesday, June 21, 150 children with type 1 diabetes will pack a special Senate Hearing on Capitol Hill during JDRF's 2005 Children's Congress. They will listen to testimonies by JDRF International Chairman Tyler , winning movie producer Wick, champion Olympic swimmer Hall, Jr., director of the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases Dr. Spiegel, and some of their fellow Children's Congress delegates. You, too, can listen and watch the hearing live on the web at 10:00 am on June 21. Each witness will give an impassioned testimony on the urgent need for continued federal funding of diabetes research to find a cure, using examples from their own lives as well as stories from people with diabetes worldwide. After the hearing, all 150 delegates and their families will meet with their respective U.S. Representatives and Senators to put a personal face on their disease. JDRF is the leading charitable funder and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetes research worldwide. The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research. Children's Congress has been held every other year since 1999 and has become the largest media and grassroots event held in support of finding a cure for type 1 diabetes, raising national awareness about the disease and participating in personal advocacy at the highest level of United States government. The President and W. Bush are Honorary Co-Chairs of Children's Congress 2005; Congressional Co-Chairs are Senator (R- ME), Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-AR), Representative Mike Castle (R- DE), and Representative DeGette (D-CO). This year, six honorary international delegates have joined Children's Congress from Australia, Canada, Denmark, Greece, Israel, and the United Kingdom. Massachusetts' Moira McCarthy Stanford, a dedicated JDRF volunteer and talented freelance writer, is Chair of Children's Congress 2005. Her daughter, Stanford, 13, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 6 and, as ChairKid, will also testify at Tuesday's hearing. Now, let me say, this is wonderful for my family. I want nothing more for a cure for my daughter. It would be amazing. I will say, however, that it amazes me how much attention that they get from Congress and the Senate when I compare it to our struggles to get these same senators/congresspeople to do the very obvious... Take thimerosal out of vaccines AND do the necessary studies to see what the hell has gone on here with the autism community. Why are we still fighting this battle? Who is protecting us? Where is Pres. Bush for us (he's certainly not going to be our Honorary Co-Chair anytime soon). Our message is too painful and shameful... More reason for us to stick together and dig those heels in... We will win! -Sue > > > > Autism Speaks would talk to people if they wanted to donate > > money, > > > but had nothing to offer these callers in terms of support? Guest guest
The President may be showing up for Juvenile Diabetes but is directing any funds towards researching a link between THAT disease and vaccines? Same old story. It ain't the genes. But I DO agree that we need some celebrities with ASD kids to get out there and attract the media's attention. Who is protecting us? Where is Pres. Bush for us (he's certainly not going to be our Honorary Co-Chair anytime soon). Our message is too painful and shameful... More reason for us to stick together and dig those heels in... We will win! -Sue
