Guest guest
Hi a, I have the same problem every week when I visit the inlaws with our kids. At one point, they were eating South Beach which worked well for me. They have since fallen off the wagon and are back to their old ways. I pretty much *hate* everything my mother in law makes because she ruins perfectly healthy food by adding a pound of butter or cream to everything. I think people believe I'm being difficult/nitpicky for health reasons, but the honest truth is this food makes me feel sick now! I don't say anything because it will offend her and everyone else. What I do is to volunteer to make a big salad for dinner every time. That way I can fill up on raw veggies. I also usually steam a vegetable (same reason). So I don't offend anyone, I usually take a very small serving of whatever has been cooked. For eg: 1 heaping TBs of the main course (last Saturday: buttery, cheesy mac & cheese made with white flour macaroni and topped with bread crumbs). If I'm lucky, she has made a protein of some kind I can eat a palm portion of. If not, I try to get some kind of protein, even if I have to go with a glass of milk, slice of cheese, so that I keep my insulin levels stable. I usually make up for meal 5 with a higher protein meal 6 (cottage cheese and protein powder), I figure it is all balanced out by the end of the day. > > I have a question along those same lines, I am going to viist my > parents next week, however my mom LOVES to cook so I doubt we will be > eating out much.
