Guest guest
, Ginger essential oil smells deep, sort of thick, and earthy. Not at all what you might have expected. It can be a nice bottom note in a blend. Guest guest
, after reading your message, I went back to my soap supply closet and opened a bag of powdered ginger. Yep it smells pew. First thought was dirt, then turmeric and green dirt then no, just pew. To me it smells like a feed store plus dirt. lol Not really but close. Is that similar to what your EO smells like? Try some lime eo in it, lighter on the ginger. That might help. Pam
Guest guest
I know just what you mean! I did the same thing cause I love ginger, but it doesn't smell good by itself. I make a soap using lemongrass and ginger eo's. Smells great that way! Jan I just bought some ginger EO for the first time thinking the smell would be a wonderful ginger smell. It is Yuk ! Jan > > Hi All, Well, I guess I'm a real ginger lover since I think it smells great " as is " . One of my most popular hand creams for men (and women like it too) has a ginger/sandalwood eo combo. It's earthy/spicey/woody and I find it very pleasant. Another eo combo that I enjoy is ginger/rose---either absolute or otto. To my nose, this blend is more feminine and could be described as earthy/womanly. Ginger blends nicely with any citrus eo also. In ayurevedic healing, ginger eo is considered to have a warming, invigorating, but centering/grounding effect and will help to restore balance. Hope this helps. Guest guest
- I know you have probably gotten a thousand replies already, but your Ginger EO SHOULD smell like Ginger. Did you contact your supplier and talk to them about it? joey ledlie wrote: >I just bought some ginger EO for the first time thinking the smell would be >a wonderful ginger smell. It is Yuk ! Guest guest
Hi Tina, Angie, Jan and Pam...many thanks for responding. Yes, the smell was not what I expected but I am going to mix it, like all of you have suggested. Smells better already !LOL I have lemongrass so I can do that and sandalwood. I don't have 'real' rose but I have a rose FO, can I use that ? Hugs, . Re: ginger EO > , > Ginger essential oil smells deep, sort of thick, and earthy. Not at all what > you might have expected. This reminds me of when I used a blend of Neroli, Rose Otto, Sandalwood and thought I smelled heavenly---not to mention very sexy My husband---who doesn't usually have a very good sense of smell and doesn't usually notice---came in and said, " Pe--uuey, what is THAT STINKY SMELL! " We all like different things, don't we? Guest guest
This topic came up on one of my groups lately, and I'm trying to find out more information. Apparently there are several types of ginger EO - one that smells sort of nasty and yucky, and one that smells more like what we traditionally think of the spice ginger smelling like. The post continued to say that the nice smelling ginger is either " fresh " ginger or " c02 " ginger. Obviously, I would like one of the yummy smelling ginger EOs! After surfing the internet for about an hour, I am finding prices ranging from $17 for 15 ml. to $6.80 for 4 oz. How can this be? My assumption would be that the less expensive ones are diluted with some type of carrier oil. Can anyone recommend a place to buy good ginger EO?
