Guest guest
- welcome to the group - I think 18 pounds is a very ambitious goal for within 12 weeks, especially based on your stats. Do you know your bodyfat %? Instead of setting a goal that is out of your control, I suggest setting goals that are within your control - so you'll have a good shot at success. Here are some examples of goals within my control: - within 12 weeks, I will not miss more than 3 days of workouts (barring any injury or illness) - within 12 weeks, I will strive for 5-6 meals (rather than 4 meals) - within 12 weeks, I will spend a minimum of 1 hour per week organizing my family photos - within 12 weeks, I will have at least an hour to myself for non-exercise related activity per day HTH n At 04:34 AM 3/14/2006, you wrote: ><SNIP> >i am 27, 5'4 " and i weigh 138 pounds. my goal is to get down to 120 >pounds. i think that's a reasonable goal for 12 weeks. especially >since i have not done any weight training in probably a year. so i'm >sure that will help boost the old metabolism... Guest guest
Hi and welcome! Good luck starting the program! I know that when I have the support of others, I am more successful at reaching my goals. You're off to a great start. Guest guest
, welcome and you will do great with BFL. I would suggest rethinking your goals a bit so you DO stay on track. Can you get your bodyfat measured? Or at least use a tape measure to jot some numbers down? I'm in week 11 and I've lost only 1 lb since week 2 (lost 3 lbs in week 1). If I was focused on my original goal of getting to 117 lbs (from 125) I would have caved after a few weeks. I would have had a 4 week 'freak out' and an 8 week freakout. I've lost inches, gained lean mass, and lost quite a bit of bodyfat. My original goal was to get to 20% bf from about 23%. I'm now down to 18%. It is good I didnt give up! Think of some goals you can control like: I will do hiit 3x week. I will weight train 3x week. I will eat 6 small meals/day. These are things you can control, otherwise you might get frustrated. > > hi! > i am soooo happy that i found this group! i just started body for life > yesterday, and i think if i have people who are doing it too to talk > to, my chances for success are that much better! > > i have problems with starting diets and quitting, and i really don't > want to do that anymore. it's kind of getting embarrassing to tell > people i'm starting a diet, b/c i'm sure they're all like " yeah, > right...we've heard that one before... Guest guest
hi sandra! thanks for the tip! now that i think about my past with dieting, i do always have a " number " goal instead of other goals. i would love to have a lower body fat percent, but i don't have any way to measure it...i can't afford a gym membership right now. i do have one of those scales that measures your body fat, but i don't know how reliable they are. i would much rather only lose a few pounds and be 18% body fat than lose 20 and still be as, uh, " mushy " as i am now. take care! ec <sandrawith2kids@...> wrote: , welcome and you will do great with BFL. Guest guest
, it is better to stay away from a scale, it is a depressing little tool! The bodyfat scales suck! They are influenced by so many things, including how much water you are retaining at the moment. I had one and quit using it because the measurements are so wonky. I think our cat sleeps on it now! I recommend this site if you don't have calipers or can't get measured at a gym. The number itself might not be quite right, but it will track progress which is the critical thing to monitor. www.biofitness.com/abodyfat.html > > hi sandra! > thanks for the tip! now that i think about my past with dieting, i do always have a " number " goal instead of other goals. i would love to have a lower body fat percent, but i don't have any way to measure it...i can't afford a gym membership right now. i do have one of those scales that measures your body fat, but i don't know how reliable they are. > > i would much rather only lose a few pounds and be 18% body fat than lose 20 and still be as, uh, " mushy " as i am now. > > take care! > ec
