Guest guest
I've never used it, but I think the reason why you hear conflicting info is it works for some people and not for others. I do know one older man who's quality of life was very improved. Felicity
Guest guest
Glucosamine is awesome, it's just not what a lot of people expect. They seem to think it's a pain killer, and that if you take it for a week and still hurt, it must not be working. Glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplements actually lubricate the joint and re-grow cartilage. It takes 2-4 months to see results, but the results are fairly amazing. I destroyed my hips running. It reached the point where I couldn't even sit cross-legged on the floor without wincing, and my hips always had a very painful " hitch " in them when I climbed stairs, especially on a step mill or stair master. It's that feeling like the joint needs to pop back into alignment. Sometimes it would pop, or sometimes it would hurt so much I'd have to stop. That situation had bothered me and been getting worse for a couple of years. I took glucosamine for three months and all of that went away. It also helped my crunchy shoulders and old rotator cuff injuries and my husband's tendonitis. We take Maximum Strength Flex-A-Min, which is a glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM combo. Those ingredients seem to work better together than any of them do individually. I have a dog with arthritis and one with severe hip dysplasia, the vet has both of them on a potent glucosamine/MSM combo called Glyco-Flex III. It's made a huge difference over time. The dog with hip dysplasia moves great and never needs his pain meds. The one with arthritis had become unable to stand on her hind legs or jump into the bed. Now she can stand up and counter-surf with the rest of them and jump into the bed from a standstill. That's impressive. I was just hoping to keep them from getting worse. I wasn't expecting a complete turn-around. Anyway, there's my experience for what it's worth. I don't take Flex-A-Min continually, but if I ever start to experience joint problems again, I'll be right back on it. Guest guest
i just started taking a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement about three weeks ago so I'll let you know. I've heard it can take awhile to see the effects. Too bad, I had two soccer games last night and I feel like I could use it right now! heather PS I've even heard that some people give reduced doses to their dogs for arthritis, etc. I'd really like to get feedback on that, I have a 12 yr old Bichon who is very healthy but seems to have some arthritis --------------------------------- Bring photos to life! Guest guest
Hi , It takes about 2 weeks of steady dosing for that supplement to kick in. I take it and I have fed it to all of my dogs. Both of my old girls had joint issues, one had bad hips the other blew out her ACL¹s (yes both legs) when she was two. The one with the bad hips was a rescue and probably the product of bad breeding. Because she came to me as a 10 year old, I don¹t really know if it benefited her or not. My girl with the ACL¹s definitely benefited from that supplement. She passed away a year ago having had no apparent pain in the joints even though arthritis showed up on X-rays. She never acted stiff or was slow at getting up unless we¹d been out playing very hard the day before. Then I¹d give her an aspirin and she¹d be fine. Ask your vet about how much to give a little dog. I have Dobermans and Pits and no one weighed under 65 pounds so I have no idea what to give a little dog. My knees have been diagnosised with severed degenerative arthritis. According to X-rays and the MRI they are aged 20 years past my age. I take glucosamine/chondroitin every day along with several dosages of Advil. I had to stop squatting because of the damage, but with proper supplementing and warm ups I can still do heavy leg presses. I had to quit sports with cleated shoes about 5 years ago because of my knees, and then quit running 2 years ago. OK, golf has cleated shoes, but it doesn¹t really count as a sport ;-) On 3/7/06 4:41 AM, " Shumaker " <heathershu24@...> wrote: > i just started taking a glucosamine/chondroitin supplement about three weeks > ago so I'll let you know. Guest guest
I started on it around December, and I can tell a huge difference! I wasn't able to get down on my knees at Christmas time and now I can. I remember really struggling to get up and people were wondering about me. My heavy leg workouts were causing the problem. I still do the heavy leg workouts, but now I can get down on my knees if I have to. Guest guest
What Skwigg said. You have to dose steadily to see results. Guest guest
Val, Thanks so much for the information! You're really inspiring, good for you for finding a way to push thru the pain instead of just giving up! I'll definitely check with my vet on what kind of dosage to give Sassy, she's only 15 pounds. Thanks again, have a great day!~ heather --------------------------------- Bring photos to life! New PhotoMail makes sharing a breeze. Guest guest
Thanks for the info. I have wondered about this myself but it is so expensive I didn't want to try it if it wasn't going to work Re: Anyone use glucosamine? Guest guest
Rene, is it only taken in pill form? > > Glucosamine is awesome, it's just not what a lot of people expect. > They seem to think it's a pain killer, and that if you take it for a > week and still hurt, it must not be working. > Glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplements actually lubricate the joint > and re-grow cartilage. Guest guest
I have seen powdered MSM. Glucosamine is usually pills but there are some liquids out there. Not sure how effective those are. The research studies generally use the pill form. On 3/7/06, <sandrawith2kids@...> wrote: > Rene, is it only taken in pill form? > >
Guest guest
I'm not , but I'll answer. A friend of mine gets it in a liquid form. I'll try to call her and find out the name and where she gets it. Guest guest
thanks for looking into this. I just wasnt sure what the best way to take it was. I'm considering adding it to my supplement list since some of my joints are creaky....I guess this happens when 40 is just around the corner! ;-) > > > > > > Glucosamine is awesome, it's just not what a lot of people > expect. > > > They seem to think it's a pain killer, and that if you take it > for a > > > week and still hurt, it must not be working. > > > Glucosamine/chondroitin/MSM supplements actually lubricate the > joint > > > and re-grow cartilage. Guest guest
Here is what my friend takes that is liquid: Synflex, and she gets it from easysource.com (that apprears to be a pet supply place, but Synflex is sold for human consumption on other sites, and this is the same stuff.) She gives it to her dog too. Guest guest
Hi guys, I ordered the synflex glucosamine that someone recommended for my dog and I. I'll let you know how it works! heather --------------------------------- Relax. virus scanning helps detect nasty viruses!
Guest guest
Glucosamine works super for dogs. We use it for our 13 year-old Norwegian Elkhound and can tell the difference if we run out for awhile. n
