Guest guest
I realized after I posted this question " do you guys get hungry " that there would be different ways to take it. I meant are you hungry in time for your next meal -- which is something I WANT to be. i like to follow my hunger to some extent (not a fanatic about this) So my question was -- will I ever get a chance to be hungry on this diet? Can I hope that my normal/natural hunger mechanism will kick in even though i ma eating 5-6 meals per day? Felicity
Guest guest
Ahh. The English language can be so difficult. I am usually hungry for my next feeding. When I am not, it is usually because I added too much vegs (ie, filler) to my prior meal. n At 10:25 AM 3/7/2006, Felicity wrote: >I realized after I posted this question " do you guys get hungry " that >there would be different ways to take it. Guest guest
You should start to feel a little hungry and be ready to eat something every 2-3 hours. If you're still stuffed 4 hours after a meal, you know your portions were too big or too calorie-dense. If you're starving an hour later, you know the meal was too small or unbalanced. You should feel " just right " most of the time, not too hungry and not to full, but yes, if you're eating at a calorie deficit, there should be some stomach growling happening. The beauty thing about this program, is that if you start to get hungry, it's usually time to eat. Guest guest
Yeah, I'm hungry inbetween meals. Matter of fact, I just ate 3.5 oz chicken, 2 cups kale, and 1/3 c cooked lentils. For breakfast, I had 1/2 c oatmeal w/ 1 c egg white substitute and 1 scoop protein powder. I'm still hungry after the chicken, kale and lentils. Not sure if I'm getting the per meal fat down, though > >I'm always hungry ) > > > > > >
Guest guest
Rebekker2003- What time was breakfast of oats and eggs? What time was lunch of chicken and kale and lentils? I don't have an answer.... I think we'd need more info - There's no reason to be hungry after eating; that's what I love about BFL and makes it feasible in the long term for me Is it hunger? Or the desire for hand-to-mouth activity? How long have you been bfl-ing? Have you had results? n At 08:31 AM 3/7/2006, you wrote: >Yeah, I'm hungry inbetween meals. Guest guest
Okay...HIIT was at 7:30. Waited and ate m1 @ 8:30. Waited exactly 3 hours for m2, so 11:30. Actual physical hunger pains and empty belly feeling. This is week 3 and I've lost several inches already and about 1.5 lbs. I wish we could figure why I'm hungry all the time, 'cause I don't like it much. Oh, and I did up my calories to 1500 from around 12- 1300. Yesterday it was 1600 and I was still so hungry when bedtime rolled around. > > > > > > Do you mean that you're hungry in between meals? > > > Do you monitor your fat/carb/protein, or are you doing palm/fist? > > > > > >
Guest guest
I'm new here but not to this way of eating. When I'm up higher in calories, I do much better. I didn't know this was true until I tried it. I went all the way down to 1200 as I stopped losing weight and body fat said it was the same although my inches are less...go figure. Anyway, I had my metabolism check by with BodyGem. My calories are up around 1800 to 2000. My RMR is 2280 so I have to eat a lot. Now, I don't really count them any more as I do the portion thing and add more when I am hungry. Since returning to more calories I've started losing weight again. I am on day 6 of my first real challenge. I have been doing the food but didn't feel ready for the exercise part - what a waste! Should have done it all at once. Live and learn. I was working with a trainer who had me on 'toning' exercises and lots of cardio. gee, and I listened to him? Right now, I'm exhausted on the BFL exercise. I keep saying I'm building muscle right? Slept nine hours and need a nap. So...for me...eat more works. If your body is hungry it's telling you something. When eating more - down 35 pounds. My challenge this time is to drop twenty more by eating more!!! Kari On 3/7/06, rebekkerr2003 <rebekkerr2003@...> wrote: > > Okay...HIIT was at 7:30. Waited and ate m1 @ 8:30. Guest guest
What % of the 1600 was from fat? I'd say - eat more. If you're hungry, you won't be happy, and then you'll go to grab something that isn't a good choice. And then you'll say, 'this program doesn't work' Re-examine how much fat you're taking in; is it around 20% of your daily food? n At 09:01 AM 3/7/2006, you wrote: >Okay...HIIT was at 7:30. Guest guest
Looking at yesterday's menu, about 17% was from fat. So I could stand a little more. Also, I have the will power of a mule. I bake pies, cakes, and cookies and never touch them. ;o) And I believe in the program. With the inches and 1.5 lbs off my bf has also decreased by 1% Hopefully my posts aren't coming across as rude. My right arm is broken, so typing with left and trying to make posts short and sweet. ) > >Okay...HIIT was at 7:30. Waited and ate m1 @ 8:30. Guest guest
i'm hungry often as well. i'm eating about 1600 cal / day and not doing the BFL workouts right now... I'm on a lifting program six days a week for an hr per session (just cycling, it won't always be that much) and doing cardio 3-4 times per week... I've thought of using hussman's calorie deficit idea so I can fluctuate my calorie intake to accomodate my workouts/calories burnt. any ideas? --------------------------------- Use Photomail to share photos without annoying attachments. Guest guest
I didn't see anything rude about your posts. I don't have a solution though - other than to eat more! Guest guest
n, I'm not sure how much fat I'm getting, I usually track calories but haven't tracked fat. Here's today for example Meal 1 - oatmeal with 1/2 scoop protein powder 2- 1/2 c cottage cheese, yoplait ff yogurt 3- Healthy Choice meal, side salad w/lite italian, sunflower seeds 4- 2 pc laughing cow cheese, grapefruit 5- tuna filet, brown rice, veggie 6- low carb shake or cottage cheese/pumpkin pie recipe I never thought much about fat... any feedback would be appreciated! heather --------------------------------- Bring photos to life! Guest guest
n, I never like to see cheese (other than cottage cheese or ricotta) used as a protein. I love cheese, don't get me wrong, and I know it is on the list of proteins, but if you look at the stats (this is for Laughin Cow Light): Nutrition Facts Serving Size 21g Calories 35 Calories from Fat 20 Amount Per Serving %RDA Total Fat 2.0g 3% Saturated Fat 1.0g 5% Cholesterol 10mg 4% Sodium 260mg 11% Total Carbohydrate 1.0g 1% Dietary Fiber 0.0g 0% Sugars 1.0g Protein 2.5g 5% Vitamin A 2% Vitamin C 0% Calcium 6% Iron 0% so one piece has 2.5 grams of protein. Two would be 5 grams. That is about one quarter of what we try to get in a meal. String cheese is a little better: String cheese, 1 slice (1 oz.) (28g) Calories: 100 Protein: 7.2g Carbohydrate: 0.61g Total Fat: 7.5g Fiber: 0.0g *Excellent source of: Calcium (214mg) but once you have the three pieces you need to get 20 grams protein you've also gotten 20 grams of fat... Just my thoughts. Barbara

Guest guest
don't know how big a girl you are, but for me 1600 cal/day with all that activity would have me starving too. How much are you losing on this? I would actually think you could up your calories a bit, high quality filling calories as has been suggested. Guest guest
If your meals are portioned correctly, you should get hungry in 2-3 hours. If you're not, try reducing portions. Guest guest
Hi , your best bet is to track a few days in fitday to know your ratios. But looking at your menu, I would guess that you are geting the right amount of fat for BFL. I'm not sure what is in laughing cow cheese, so that could be making your fat a bit higher. Having extra fat is actually not the end of the world, though. What I see missing is some more healthy fats...I'm a big advocate of flax oil/meal to help lose fat. Skwigg writes about it somewhere on her website. > > n, > I'm not sure how much fat I'm getting, I usually track calories but haven't tracked fat. > Here's today for example > Meal > 1 - oatmeal with 1/2 scoop protein powder > 2- 1/2 c cottage cheese, yoplait ff yogurt > 3- Healthy Choice meal, side salad w/lite italian, sunflower seeds > 4- 2 pc laughing cow cheese, grapefruit > 5- tuna filet, brown rice, veggie > 6- low carb shake or cottage cheese/pumpkin pie recipe > > I never thought much about fat... any feedback would be appreciated! > heather > > > --------------------------------- > > Bring photos to life! Guest guest
I would say you need to add some fat. Maybe some flax seed to the oatmeal Shumaker <heathershu24@...> wrote: n, I'm not sure how much fat I'm getting, I usually track calories but haven't tracked fat. Guest guest
Hi Felicity, I eat lots of veggies, but they don't really fill me up too much. I'll definately try more! Also, I'm trying to cycle my calories, and it probably just needs tweaking is all. Dinner tonight was 4 oz salmon, 1 c spinach, raw, 1 c broccoli, and a small sweet potato forlifewomensclub2 , Felicity <Felizatee@...> wrote: > > > > I didn't see anything rude about your posts. > > I don't have a solution though - other than to eat more! > > How about more vegetables to fill up? > > Felicity >
Guest guest
I'm gonna throw my two cents in here. It sounds like you are incredibly active. If you are baking all day every day then you are expending a tremendous amount of energy (calories) in your everyday activity. A lot more than those of us that sit a desk all day. Add to that cardio, weight training, and the healing process (yes your body is more metabolically active when it's trying to heal) then you are burning up calories like a furnace. If you are hungry eat. If you are hungry between meal 1 and 2 then add a 1/2 whole wheat english muffin or other complex carb to the meal. Eat a handful of almonds (11 is a serving) if you get hungry between meals or have a piece of string cheese. Sprinkle on some nuts or flax oil, Use a little butter (the real stuff, it's really better for you than the fake stuff) on your yam. Experiment from day to day until you find the portions that are right for you. Girl, you are kicking some calorie butt and making great progress but you don't want to be starving to do it. That's the sweetness of BFL... you don't have to starve to be fit. It may take you about a week now of experimenting but I have no doubt you'll get it down. Let us know.
