I was a cheerleader in MS and HS; and I'll tell you, if I had a daughter I wouldn't let her go out for it. I loved cheerleading as a child/adolescent, but I see cheerleaders now and wonder how come I did it. In our school girls could only do basketball, track, cross country, softball, as far as sports go. Now girls have so many options, even in some small towns, that I would think cheerleading would be at the bottom of the list for choices. Cheerleading seems so stupid to me now and what a statement it makes about women. Yuck!!! It needs to be shown that women are smart, self-sufficient, athletic and intelligent -- and we are not the weaker sex! Anyway, I know what you're saying and boy is it hard to get this point across to a young girl when you live in Texas. Cheerleaders and, what do they call them, dance teams (my sisters daughters group is called the Stepperettes!!!) seem to be "the thing" for young girls in Texas. But I'm sure you're showing Avery that women can be more than that, so I wouldn't worry that much. She has a good roll model. My boys see me do everything from mowing the lawn, making dinner, playing sports with them, and using tools to do projects around the house (especially the catch-all place -- the GARAGE) Well, I've babbled long enough -- have a great day.
