Guest guest
Tara, it sounds like you have overcome so much already. I don't have any answers for you but wanted you to know that you can do it. You have come so far already. : ) My only humble suggestion would be to up that 2nd meal and make it have more calories/ bigger portion. : ) Maybe that would help with the hunger between 8-11. : ) Amy > > Ok..here's the deal, as my mom likes to say. I am 25 yrs old, 120- 122 pounds (up from 113), 5'7, and around 10% bodyfat. I need to gain some bodyfat b/c I have not menstruated for about a year. I have a history of anorexia and I used to be 180 pounds. It's very hard for me to get out of the weight loss mindset. I have gained almost 10 pounds, but it seems like I am STARVING all of the time. I use fitday and I'm eating between 1800 and 2000 calories a day, which should be plenty. My ratios are usually 40/40/20 and I eat 6 and sometimes 7 times a day. > > Typical day: > > 1: protein pancake w/ 1/2 c. oats,1/2 c. egg beaters, scoop choc. protein > soy chips > > 2: apple and 1 c. cottage cheese > > 3: whole wheat wrap w/ chicken and a HUGE salad w/ spinach and tomatoes and mushrooms > > 4: myoplex carb sense w/ 2 c. strawberries > > 5: whole wheat bread and chicken salad > > 6: another shake w/ 1 TBSP peanut butter added > > I lift 4 days a week and do 4 days of cardio > > I am mostly hungry in the mornings between 8 and 11. I eat at 7, 9:30, 12, 4,7,and 8:30 sorry for all of the detail, but it seems like I shouldn't be so hungry all of the time. I drink 15 glasses of water. Thanks for any help! Guest guest
Thanks for the encouragement! I think my problem today was that I didn't eat enough fat. At dinner time, I had a serious case of the nibbles. Nothing seemed to satisfy me even though I wasn't hungry. When i entered stuff into fitday, I saw that i was at 12% fat intake, which is pretty low. I think I'm going to add more calories to my morning, since that's when i work out. Hope it helps! okieinalaska <babybrella@...> wrote: Tara, it sounds like you have overcome so much already. I don't have any answers for you but wanted you to know that you can do it. Guest guest
If you're hungry and you're trying to gain, EAT. :-) I know, easier said than done, but you're attempting to gain weight on what would probably still be a calorie deficit for an active Body for Lifer. As your calories get higher (2,000+) 40% protein starts to become excessive, so you might want to adjust your ratios a little. 50/30/20 is the standard recommendation for muscle gain. You might find some inspiration in my Food Pie for the Stupidly Active: http://www.skwigg.com/id72.html Or Krista's tips on How to Gain Mass: http://www.stumptuous.com/cms/displayarticle.php?aid=59 Or if you have the BFL book handy, read the Q & A on pg 120 where he describes how to eat for muscle gain by doubling the carb portions on the first three meals of the day. You're not doing that and it's probably why you're starving. On 3/2/06, Tara Winnett <twinnett001@...> wrote: > Ok..here's the deal, as my mom likes to say. Guest guest
Hi Tara - I've been on both sides of the coin your dealing with. Went from 210 post pregnancy to 116 (I'm 5'7 " ). I'm not a long time BFL'er in fact I'm rather new at it. If I were trying to gain like you, I'd add to the morning meals (that's when i starve too) and don't forget you can eat as many veggies as you like. The other thing is figure out how many ounces of water you are drinking. Drink one for each lb you weigh. you weigh 120? Drink 120 ounces. More water than that encourages weight loss. Of course you may need to vary that a bit depending on your activity. On the days I serve I drink at least a gallon of water. On the other days I probably drink 3/4 of a gallon (I use a half gallon jug to measure) HTH (Hope this Helps!) Becki
Guest guest
Tara, I think you need to increase your carbs in your meals. I know it seems daunting and scary to eat, but if you consume the right kind of carbs (healthy ones) you will be ok. Someone of your size, age and activity level, could probably double up healthy carbs for the first few meals (at least). Not sure what is in your last shake at the end of the day, but if it is mostly protein and fat, you could consider have a small portion of berries, or apples, for instance. You are not going to get too heavy or fat if you eat a cup of oatmeal instead of 1/2 cup in meal 1. For meal 2, consider another starchy carb with your cottage cheese like 1/2 cup oatmeal, oatbran, brown rice (but still eat the apple). You could add a piece of fruit with meal 3 (like an orange, plum, nectarine). You might want to add a slightly higher calorie fruit for meal 4, like a pear instead of berries. If you are hungry then make sure you up your portions a bit. You have plenty of protien for your weight, and plenty of healthy fats, so focus on the natural carbs. Because these have fiber and water, this should help satisfy you and keep your tummy from grumbling. p.s. You can also monitor progress and body changes. If you find that it isnt working for you, you can always make adjustments! > > > > > Ok..here's the deal, as my mom likes to say. Guest guest
Thanks. It's just so hard. My mind knows that I need to gain weight, but I'm SO scared of gaining all of my weight back. My whole family is extremely obese and I seem to put on weight so fast. I will try changing my ratios and see if that helps. Thanks!
