Guest guest
Managed to get a workout in this morning after breakfast while the kids were happily playing together. Thankfully, they don't fight often so I can usually feel okay going to my workout room for a while at least. I'd decided I really need to work on my abs. I've been purposely avoiding abs work because it is hard for me. My kids do the same thing; whine and fuss and try to get out of doing things that are hard and I force them to try anyway because it is my job to torture them for the sake of learning to do something important. :-) I decided I needed to do the same thing to myself (and will tell them about it later). I did Ana Caban's Easy Pilates first. This is a 15 minute VHS video (that Kassia said is part of another DVD workout I think). It is fast moving and she doesn't demonstrate or explain anything so I'm glad I'd done Sansone's You Can! Do Pilates video a few times in the last few months since that does have a 15 minute instructional section going over terms and moves. I got through this workout relatively well. I tried concentrating on keeping my belly button pulled in but know I lost focus trying to follow the moves so it will take another time or two before I can get a lot out of this probably and that is okay. After Ana I decided to do Sansone's Shortcuts: Abs. I got this from freecycle and hadn't tried it yet. Compared to Tamilee Webb's I Want Those Abs! this is an easy stroll. However, for someone who just did a 15 minute pilates workout and who has not purposely worked her abs in a long time it was definitely challenging! It is a 30 minute video and though she occasionally stops to demonstrate something she also goes fairly quickly from one move to the next. I could not complete all the reps of some of the exercises partly because I need to build more neck strength and partly because my abs were fatigued. I'll have to try this one as its own workout without anything else in front of it next time to see if it is as difficult for me or if it is because I'd just done the pilates workout. For anyone who hasn't done this one, it is starts with a 4 or 5 minute walking workout (all the usual moves) then is all floor work after that with a short stretch at the end. Lots of crunches in all different directions and done different ways. I liked it though and when I can get through all of this will go back to trying Tamilee's abs. I also have 's Shortcuts: Lower Body workout tape and haven't tried it yet so I think I will do that soon too. When I got done with that I pulled out another freecyle tape. This was Walk Away Your Stress. It has 3 workouts, each 10 minutes. I did just the first one but used my 3 lb. dumbbells throughout it. I really enjoyed it! The music was excellent (for once, I'm not a big fan of a lot of her music) and the moves were all the familiar ones. I started into the 2nd workout (they just flow one to another which is nice, you can just do 30 minutes with it easily) but was really tired between the abs work and then doing bigger moves for the walk and using the weights so I quit. My kids had also been upstairs alone for almost an hour and I'd noticed it had become quiet and that was not reassuring so I wanted to get upstairs and check on them and I had to pee pretty badly too so I figured 55 minutes of challenging work (plus I'd vaccuumed 20 minutes just before my workout) was enough! I grabbed a fast shower and as I was drying my hair my dad showed up to take us out to lunch. We went to Red Robin and I actually found a low fat chicken dish there that was excellent (Chicken Ensenada) so I had a good lunch that didn't negate the work I'd just done! :-) Tomorrow is yoga. I can't go to class because I have the kids home and I'm not sure which tape I'm going to do yet (I'm building up a nice little collection thanks to all of you) but am looking forward to whatever I do!
