Guest guest
Charlotte Have you tried the myoplex puddings? There are many different recipes in the Eating for Life book but it's pretty basic, i use 2 packets of myoplex lite + 2 - 2 1/2 c skim milk + 1 small package of sugar free instant pudding. The chocolate and butterscoth are great and so is the banana with one real banana mixed in. These are a really a treat! heather --------------------------------- Use Photomail to share photos without annoying attachments.
Guest guest
What sort of protein shake are you drinking? I drink 2 Myoplex Carb Sense Ready To Drink shakes a day. Stats are: 150 Calories 3.5 gr Fat 25 gr Protein 5 Carbs They are only 11oz. and I can drink them in about 20 seconds. Just throw it back, and it's a quick meal. You can drink them so fast, there isn't much time to any bad taste. I only drink the French Vanilla ones (they don't taste bad at ALL), and you can always chase it with H2O or Diet Soda. Kim > > Okay - so I have now tried my second protien shake flavor - and I still hate it!! I used vanilla so that I could blend fruit in with it - yuck - I tried it alone - yuck!!! So I don't know what to do. I have time to cook chicken ahead of time and bring it with me for a small meal during the day - but are there any other suggestion on getting protien in? I'm not a big fan of cottage cheese either - I know, I'm being difficult!! Would turkey bacon and strawberries count as a midmeal?? > > Thank you! > Charlotte > > > --------------------------------- > Relax. virus scanning helps detect nasty viruses! > >

Guest guest
Alternatives to shakes: - food - 1 hard boiled egg, several hard boiled whites, and a piece of fruit or whole-grain crackers - low-fat cheese and fruit - room temperature egg/oat pudding (or reheated) (1/3 cup oats, 1/3 cup water, 1 cup egg whites, splenda and/or cinnamon - nuked for 2-4 minutes, stirring after each minute) - fish with steamed vegs and/or rice - minced vegetables with chicken or turkey - leftover roasted vegetables with chicken/turkey/fish I don't know the details on turkey bacon, but it would be fine as a midmeal if the fat isn't too high. As says, the guideline is probably 200-250 calories per meal, with 20-25 grams of protein, 20-25 grams of carb and 4-6 (I think) of fat HTH n At 01:48 PM 3/2/2006, you wrote: >Okay - so I have now tried my second protien shake flavor - and I still >hate it!! Guest guest
I'm thinking that if you used Myoplex (which is a meal replacement in itself) and then added all the other carbs it would be a carb lopsided meal - i guess ok once in awhile but if you made the same with protein POWDER instead of the MRP then maybe it would be more balanced. I wonder what brand of protein powder the original poster was using - its really a vast difference btwn brands so dont give up hope! ;-) I really like Natures Best Isopure locar chocolate as the most drinkable by itself or in shakes (it dissolves and can be stirred with a spoon its so fine with absolutely NO clumps). I dont really care for any of the Myoplex's (sorry not my tastebud fave LoL!)Like they are are ok, but not that I ever looked forward to drinking one! They always seemed so foalmy and 'gluggy' for lack of better word(!) no matter how I changed around making them. Ditto with the ready to drink ones which I thought tasted like a tinny medicine flavor that was nasty. About the only RTD I ever liked was made by KashiGoLean. So I went the protein powder route. Lots of variety. But I went thru many brands before I found a few I really like (also Costco chocolate is good too) but I hated Designer Wheys while others rave about them! To each their own, but continue to try some others! joni ----------------------------------------- *its like cottage cheese and the difference btwn brands*
Guest guest
How can you not love a protein shake???? Here's my concoction for a healthy yet yummy shake: In a large blender put in water about halfway, put in 4 ice cubes, put in one or two scoops of protein powder (I like chocolate which has 100 calories per scoop), 1/2 cup blueberries, and either a banana or 1/2 cup of cereal which makes it thicker. Now blend until you don't hear the cubes clanking around. Try it and let me know what you think. Oh, the vanilla extract idea you had is very good as I've done this myself at times (like the time I thought I'd get in all my veggies by putting in a cup of frozen mixed veggies into my shake--didn't turn out too tasty so I've never tried that again). Guest guest
Thank you to everybody who gave me suggestions! I am going to try it again this afternoon when I get home. As far as the brand - I am using Beveryly International - which was suggested by my father who drinks protien shakes all the time. I am not so sure it's the taste that I don't like - but yet - the consistancy. But, I will take what everybody had to say into consideration and I will try again! Lol Thanks again! Guest guest
The ready to drink shakes are thin like chocolate milk. I love the thick consistency. I actually add tons of ice to make them even thicker. I have to eat mine w/ a spoon! Guest guest
I have the same issues as you. I don't like cottage cheese, or yogurt, and I haven't found a tasty shake or bar yet. I love that she's getting that extra protein with her after school snack. - 1 cup liquid pasteurized egg whites (without coloring or seasoning) - optional: protein powder as needed to fulfill your needs; I use one without artificial sweetener, flavor or carbs; I used to use Designer Whey vanilla, because that's what I had in the house; I never have more than one container in the house at a time - if I want alternative flavors, I adjust via the recipe (ie, strawberries for strawberry flavor, unsweetened cocoa for chocolate flavor, vanilla extract for vanilla - etc); it's too much $ and the containers are too big for me to have multiples. I don't know what I have now - I think it's BioChem from Vitamin Shop/World.... - optional: dollop of cottage cheese; gives protein, makes it creamy - optional: ground flaxseed or liquid flaxoil - choose carb from: lite flavored yogurt (I plan to transfer some yogurt to small ice cube trays and freeze them in the coming months, and add chunks to the blender); or fresh or frozen fruit (I freeze bananas, I buy bags of frozen strawberries, blueberries, mixed berries); if you use frozen fruit, then you don't need ice, or you don't need as much ice; if I use fresh fruit, then I add ice; sometimes I use some fresh fruit and some frozen fruit; a whole orange in a shakes makes a creamiscle - optional: guar gum or agar (natural thickeners; I haven't bothered with this in a long time) - optional: vanilla extract, unsweetened cocoa, mint extract, sugar free flavored powdered puddings, sugar free davinci syrups, tbsp of peanut butter, extra liquid (sometimes I throw in coffee), almond extract NOTE: In the summer, I may take my shake and run it thru my ice cream maker, if I want it to be colder and thicker. Guest guest
My daughter and I (She's doing this with me) tried all the shakes we could find. The only one I like is Ensure. But it has a lot of sugar in it. I try not to need one at all, but the days I run it's that or a nutrition bar. I don't use them at home. There's too much good stuff to eat here. LOL The thing I do like for a quick pick me up is a glass of milk with vanilla whey protein. Add a carb in for balance (fruit?) and viola! Guest guest
n- Thank you , thank you! I can't wait to check my cabinets because I know I have some of the items you mentioned on hand. I have been trying different recipes for smoothies and your ideas sound yummy. Although I am not crazy about most of the protein shakes, I have found the additional protein has made my sugar cravings disappear. I am psyched and I feel SO much better. I've also lost some pounds and inches, so I know I'm heading in the right direction. It's great that your daughter is eating healthy. Quality food is a true gift that parents can give their kids. It's not easy growing up in this world of junk foods. Thanks again for the tips, > >n: > > > >Could you give us your recipe for shakes with egg whites? I've > >never tried to make that.
