Guest guest
Hi ladies, I'm in week 10 of my first challenge and I'm doing great with the exception of one thing! Where's Aunt Flo? I am almost certain I'm not pregnant! My body fat is NOT in the single digits. I'm not even in the 20's yet, so what's going on? Has anyone had their cycle do weird things during the challenge? I've been really stressed out just wondering what's going on! I'm 43, so it's possible that I'm going into menopause, but I've had no other symptoms. Just really wondering if anyone else has had this experience. - Do or do not. There is no try. Yoda, 'The Empire Strikes Back'
Guest guest
Hi , As I¹ve lost weight over the last 2.5 years (only BFL in the last couple of months) I found that what and how much I¹m eating really effects my periods. Part of that is because when we eat right and exercise our estrogen levels change. With everything I was eating before and my high level of fat my estrogen levels were probably out of this world which was evident by my overly heavy periods. Most of us in our 40s are perimenopausal (pre) anyway, but my guess is that your body is adjusting to your healthy eating and increased exercise. You might miss one here or there but your not officially in menopause until you¹ve missed it for one year. At 46 and after losing 125 pounds my periods got more regular and lighter but it¹s not unusual for me to miss one every couple of months. Hope that helps. Guest guest
Thanks Laurie! That helps immensely! My dh told me my body was just adjusting to my new way of " being " , but some things I need to hear from a woman, kwim? I'll relax! I'll also do some online research on how exercise, estrogen levels, and eating effects menstrual periods to further ease my mind. - Do or do not. There is no try. Guest guest
It's completely normal. Any type of major shock or change to the system in the areas of exercise or dieting may make you miss a period. If your bodyfat goes below a certain point...usually 11 or 12% for some, periods will stop altogether for a few months. Given that I diet down for competition so much throughout the year the rule of thumb my doctor tells me is 3 months. If I haven't had one for 3 months then I should induce one with hormones that the doctor can prescribe. I did that once and it was kind of harsh and made me super cranky, so I learned another trick. I take Wild Yam for the 1st two weeks of my cycle, except for the first couple days of Aunt Flo, beginning when my period is starting to end and then up to ovulation. Then the day after ovulation I stop taking Wild Yam and for the last two weeks of the cycle, up until Aunt Flo comes to visit for a week, I rub a progesterone cream onto the soft parts of my skin twice a day. You can buy that at a health food store and it only takes a 1/4 teaspoon. I'm 31 years of age and I've done this for two years now. - > > Hi ladies, > > I'm in week 10 of my first challenge and I'm doing great with the exception of one thing! Where's Aunt Flo? Guest guest
At 46, it's totally normal to have long cycle (actually, non- ovulation days). Very normal. I'm kind of surprised that this is apparently your first! I'm taking flaxseed oil and I noticed immediately that things are a little more regular. Fats in your diet play a huge role in hormone regulation. You may have just shocked your bod with low fat eating and it responded with delayed ovulation. I wouldn't even think twice. It's not menopause onset, just normal for us 30-50-somethings. Jami > > Hi ladies, > > I'm in week 10 of my first challenge and I'm doing great with the exception of one thing! Where's Aunt Flo?
