Guest guest
Hey, I am on a 2000 calorie a day nutrition plan...this mean 200 grams of protein, 200 carbs and 45 grams of fat. However, if I have almonds as one of my meals or part of it, that eat's up 16 grams of fat and brings me up to 55 grams of fat a day. I really enjoy the nuts and they are healthy fats...do you think that the extra 10 grams of fat a day will hinder my goal long term? Thanks! Guest guest
That is probably WAY more protein than you need in a day. Unless you're sporting 200 pounds of lean muscle, I would back it down quite a bit. One gram of protein per pound of body weight (or per pound of lean weight) is about the most your body needs or can use. Unless you're a pro bodybuilder or fitness competitor who's lifting very intensely for over an hour a day, you're just looking at expensive pee-pee and tired kidneys. :-) The 40/40/20 ratio works nicely for anyone on a severe calorie restriction. However, once you get over about 2,000 calories a day, you need to shift the ratios to higher carbs, especially if your goal is muscle gain. Most people eating for muscle gain use more like a 50/30/20 ratio of protein/carbs/fat. I eat a 50/25/25 ratio. Bottom line, if you rein in your protein intake a little, you'll have plenty of room for the healthy fat in the almonds.
