LOL you are so funny Kris. So you straighten your hair? I just started doing that a couple months ago. I have naturally curly hair. I have to admit, keeping it straight is a real pain in the rear end, even though it looks REALLY good. If I sweat a little tiny bit, I have to go and straighten it. If it rains, I have to go straighten it again. my DH LOVES it straight, but its starting to become more trouble than its worth.

Oh, I hear you guys on straightening, I have naturally

curly hair to and I wear it curly all the time b/c I

have no patience or skill with hair appliances. I

never even blow dry unless it is freezing out and I

need to go somewhere right after my shower! I've had

hair stylists straighten it and it takes them about 45

min to do it - crazy! I think I look weird w/

straight hair anyway! :) Plus, I live in a humid

place and there is no way it would ever stay straight

for long - especially in the summer.

When I've been to the southwest my hair straightens

out a bit on its own.

Take care,

Donna

I never saw myself without a tan either since i live in the caribbean and i quite like the less tanned look on me too and u don't get all icky and sweaty in the winter so ur makeup stays nice ...spring and fall too ...only summer to contend with. I'll give you Michigan winters for Caribbean winters any day Kris!!

I'll have to check out P90X just because everyone is talking about it so much and you guys are making it a goal to get there. My goal is to continue increasing intensity without making myself crazy with complex choreography so if this fits that bill then I might join you (and if not, I'll just keep adding weights and bigger moves to my workouts). As an interim step, by the way, you might look at Kathy 's Matrix Walk for Weight Loss (look, I'm even recommending this one now). It is more complex than because it is more aerobics than walking in a lot of places but is very doable, even by clutzy me.

!! Thank you SO MUCH for that recommendation! I was doing WATP 3 mile last nite and i was so bored .I love it but i just don't 'feel' it anymore even with increasing the weights and it just takes so long to go by sometimes. I will look into getting that Kathy workout. Also some more difficult leslie ones.I'm not the most coordinated person and i think i really hate kickboxing :( I WANT to like it though so i'm working on that. My lower back is just so darned iffy lately.About P90X I heard so many people on here talking about it and the name sounded super scary. Well, it IS. LOL nothing about it looks even semi doable BUT it looks so juicy (and expensive) i really want to make that my goal. Not for any time soon but perhaps after i lose the majority of the weight. I think thats what stops me from the kickboxing stuff too feeling my tummy or thigh flab flap ..eeps! I saw really large people on the billy commercial so i got the bootcamp vids but i can't move

as fast as them. My trainer told me they're very good dvds and not to give up on them - go at half pace if i have to till i get the moves down, but i get so upset at myself if i can't do it great instantly. Will probably be a good and much needed lesson in patience and slowing down too.So P90X as ultimate goal and for now i'm goin to try liking kickboxing. I have billy's bootcamp, turbo jam and i think kathy smith kickboxing..or maybe shes kathy somebody else? lol the jacket isn't in front of me right now.I really like the simplicity of leslie's workouts but if i could get it with a bit more oomph to burn more calories and feel like i'm working harder then that would be great. Thanks for the recommendation again:) How are things going?oh and by the way..what did u mean by adding 'bigger movements' to leslie's workouts?thanks :)Kris.nancydewolf <nancydewolf@...> wrote: I'll give you Michigan winters for Caribbean winters any day Kris!! I have a natural wave in my hair, it's not like a kinky curl or anything just a nice wave. I like it, the only time my hair mis-behaves is when it starts getting too long then I just get it cut and it's good again LOL Jen Donna M-P <donna112520@...> wrote: Oh, I hear you guys on straightening, I have naturallycurly

Hi Kris!

I finally have some time to reply to this note!

Definitely try some of the more intense 's, they will make a difference too. I love 4 Mile Super Challenge and 5 Mile Advanced. You can do just 1, 2 or however many miles you want on those too. The 5 mile has three 3 mile premixes to pick from too. I just ordered Walk Slim last night and got an email today that I should get it on Tuesday. I'll post after I do something with it but from what I've read I'm expecting to love it. I'm watching Walk & Jog right now too, it looks good! (I don't own it yet, I signed up for 's Walking Club and the full length video is available for viewing for members this month so I can play it on the computer and workout with it. Will do that later or tomorrow probably, got a friend coming over soon.) Walk & Jog is interval training: 3 minutes of her regular walking stuff (but at a really good pace) alternated with 3 minutes of jogging repeatedly. Her Walk Strong is a really fun walking and toning interval workout. I get a really good workout from it.

Kickboxing: I am completely uncoordinated. When I told my SIL (who talked me into trying step aerobics with her years ago) that I'd signed my 5 year old DD up for dance lessons she said, "Well I hope she's more coordinated than you!" She's right too. suggested I start with 's Walk and Kick so that's what I did and I loved it! I felt successful at doing something I was sure would be too much upper/lower body coordination for me but I did really great. I've since gone on to get Turbo Jam Learn & Burn. I did it once and really liked it. Lots for me to learn on that but I didn't feel like a total idiot trying it and I will get back to it on a day when I feel like I can concentrate (which isn't always and 's are great for those days). I'm not a large person but says she lost something like 65 pounds doing Turbo Jam (or Turbo Kick)! I think on the Learn & Burn video Chalene points out a very trim background exerciser (or more) that lost over 50 pounds doing TJ. I also have Blanks Tae Bo Basic Ultimate Total Body but haven't tried it yet but it looks good! I hear ya though on hating to feel the tummy or thigh flab... I don't feel it anymore but I did for so long and still sometimes find myself sitting down carefully to avoid rubbing my chest or stomach against the table (even though they don't now). I hated being in my own body. All the more reason to do exercises that will help get rid of it. If TJ makes you feel that uncomfortable though at this point, don't push yourself to do it because you'll end up hating the workout.

Do things that make you feel good about you. EVERY time you choose to move, whether it is , TJ or P90X it works your body and does wonderful things for your health. I used to feel badly about myself because I don't do high impact or really intense programs like I assume P90 is. I can't do high impact because of my knees (but can modify a lot of things for me). I don't do some of the others because I'm not ready for the intensity I don't think. I also don't like complex choreography, those workouts just frustrate me for way too long. I could probably make it through a very intense P90 workout but it might be so tough that I wouldn't come back to it for a long time (which is what I see myself doing now with some of the less intense videos I've tried). I've come to realize though that whatever I do, as long as I am working ME hard enough, is what I want! I cannot compare myself to a lot of the exercisers on this list because I've been working out regularly now for 3 MONTHS and some of them have been for YEARS. Why would I want to try doing what they do at this point in time? If I get there, great, if not it is okay too as long as I am giving my own body the intensity it needs (and not going too light, which is usually not a problem for me, overdoing and getting frustrated is though). My body and brain also don't do complexity so I see myself using 's workouts for quite a while and just amping them up with weights and bigger movements (explained below). I sometimes try more complex workouts (like Kathy 's matrix walking) but have to give myself lots of time to get comfortable with them before I get a really good workout from them and that is a bit frustrating sometimes. Kathy isn't too complex it only took me two workouts (and lots of help from this group) to catch on to what she's doing. Anything with more aerobic steps though and I'd be losing my mind.

Bigger movements: what I mean by this is that when she has you kicking, I put my upper body in motion before she calls for it by reaching out with the opposite hand to the foot that is kicking. She doesn't have you do this in most warmups but I'm ready for it early so I go ahead and do it. I make that movement bigger by swinging my arms instead of just putting them out, it calls on more muscles and uses more energy. Sometimes I kind of jog as I kick. For side steps I go down as low as I can safely and push my legs out as far as I can. I try to almost hop my legs together too sometimes on the faster music (on the 5 mile video there is at least one mile where this is necessary you have to go so fast). For knee lifts I do a couple of things: instead of just moving my hands from one knee to another I circle my arms wide as I bring them down to the knee. For much more intensity I lift my knee to the opposite elbow as the knee comes up. I have to work hard at keeping my good alignment and posture with a tight stomach to do this because if you are bending too much you'll put too much torque on your back from the repetition. This really gets my heart pumping and among other parts, my core is working hard too. I try to follow Kay (blonde, shoulder length hair, in some videos a bit plump but I notice in Walk & Jog she's quite trim) as she tends to do higher intensity movements with the basic steps (more arm swinging and upper body movements than does even though doesn't usually point out that you should watch her for that stuff; in Walk & Jog though she's the low impact modifier walking for everything instead of jogging which seems kind of funny to me). Notice I say she does higher "intensity" but not higher impact. I'm looking for intensity, not joint pounding. When I first started, I wanted to follow Kay but found her movements made it too intense and I'd get out of breath too quickly. She does a lot more moving around with her lower body too, kind of bouncing around with the music. Now I can bounce (safely) right along with her and it feels great! There's also a woman with short dark hair who is a grandmother who I follow often because she seems to be using stronger arm movments especially (can't remember her name at this moment but she's an inspiration, she looks so strong and fit and she's a grandmother). I also use hand weights (3 or 5 pounds) on a lot of the videos even though they may not call for weights, just to up the intensity that way too. I don't use ankle weights because those aren't safe to move around wearing but the hand weights are fine. I also like using the stretchy band (pulled really tight for lots of intensity) but notice my legs slow down when I use it because I'm concentrating so much on upper body. I think that is okay though because I'm really pushing those upper body muscles hard when I use it. I usually only use this on videos that call for it but I like those a lot for variety.

Anyway, I know this is long but I hope it helps! Feel free to shoot more questions towards me though!
