Anyone who likes/does TJ - any tips on staying 'tucked'? Did it just happen for ya? Did u work up to it? Because i dont find myself staying 'tucked' i get untucked easy and i am scared that staying tucked while doing it will just totally wig out my sciatica.? Any ideas? I'm thinking to ignore the tucking for now...? Or tuck whenever i remember to...but i dont want to not get the benefits but i guess its good cardio even if i dont tuck right ? Eep. I hate not being able to do something great right off the bat. I attempted to work out twice today and once on friday and both times i got pissed off and instead of doing another dvd i just quit :(I don't want to eat myself back up the scale :(aaahh i just feel all kindsa off kilter today. Must be because mom is visiting again (2nd visit in 2 weekends and i love her but i can't take THAT much of her. Shes cleaning everything and acting like i'm completely #$%%$^# inept) aaahhKris. My artwork

Hi Kris!

I had the same problem when I did TJ and asked this group for help too. I'll copy and paste some of the help I got here. I don't think anyone will mind... (it'll save them from writing it again!)

From Carolyn:

doing all of the tucking in TJ was killing my back -- especially the fast ones ('pump'). other kickboxing videos do not emphasize this constant tucking... but this is part of chalene's flavour of kickboxing, i guess. the tuck is extremely necessary for the capoeira exercises though! it is important to have proper form doing those... however, i think that it is a good idea to start out doing only some of the other tucking action and concentrate on holding your abs tight instead. work up to tucking as much/as fast as chalene does.

From (who teaches Turbo Kick):

I try to think of the the tuck as a standing abdominal crunch. However, this move is more recent to Turbo Kick / Jam and isn'tfeatured that much in the classes (aka "rounds") that I teach. As amodification, just do a regular bob and weave instead. You need tokeep your abs engaged for pretty much an entire kickboxing workoutanyway, so I wouldn't worry about substituting a bob and weave untilyou became more fluent with the rest of the moves before perfectingthe tuck.

Anyway, I hope that helps. I still need to do this workout again soon and work on this myself too.

Thanks Kathy. I'll take your advice on doing the slight tuck. And being less hard on myself!Kris.kvetro60 <kvetro60@...> wrote: Don't be so hard on yourself Kris. hi kris - yeah, i found the fast tucking (ie: 'the pump') irritated

my sciatica, so be careful. i tuck only when it is necessary,

which it is for some moves, like the wheel for example. i dont

like to tuck while kicking or punching because the tuck combined

with twisting hurts my lower back, and also messes up my kickboxing

form.

tuck whenever you want to, or only when it really is called for on

certain moves. TJ is still an awesome cardio kickboxing workout

without the constant tucking. i dont know of any other kickboxing

workout that calls for all of that tucking.

try not to get peeved... it is YOUR workout! make it suit YOU!

ahhhh.... i say, let her clean all that she wants!! i know that

the criticism is hard to take, but who else will clean your house

for you without wanting money for it??? LOL. put on some

headphones and put your feet up! ;)

i hear ya though.... i rarely see my parents, and often wish that i

were around them more, but i expect that if i saw them every weekend

they would begin to drive me bonkers. it is hard to find a happy

medium.

im also feeling 'off' ... ive been mad at my dh for the last 2

days. yesterday i got an ok workout in, but later i ate an ENTIRE

box of kraft dinner (kraft macaroni & cheese) for 1000 calories!!

eek! today, i just cannot get my head together to workout, even

though i know that it is the best thing for me ::sigh:: oh well,

there is always tomorrow, right?

take care,

:*carolyn.

yes! this was a big part of my problem when i first started doing

TJ... i would really tuck hard and that was hurting me! so just

tuck a little bit and work your way up to it.

I'm sorry you're mad at your dh :( And that u got into a box o kraft! Its ok your body probably burned it off and you'll get a workout in today right? I don't mean to sound weird or evil but i'm kinda glad to know that someone who works out as much as you do that you still has these kinda nights where u indulge in mac n cheese and dont feel like working out. I think i think of some of you on here as total workout nuts who watch every calorie and works out till its all gone or something. I think sometimes i hold myself to that stupid made up standard and i get pissed with myself when i can't hold to it because obviously no one can. Thanks for fessing up and knocking those dumb ideas out my head:) I love the support and exchange that happens here in this community. I love that theres no silly biting and snarkiness because its all so unnecessary. To think i almost didn't join because i got fed up of snarky ! Must be all the endorphins in here making everyone

happy lolAnyways - here's to a whole new week hopefully with better attitudes and more working out ?:D Thanks also for the tuck info for TJ i remember how much people on here raved about TJ when it first came out so finding i couldn't do it 'properly' really twigged me off. I pretty much hate kickboxing though but i aim to love it at some point in my life!I read the billy book which improved my form tremendously and now i just have to get the nerve up to stick in the dvd an do it.I'll do it. Everytime i read paul's emails i just wanna hide behind the couch lol he loves billy insanely and i think billy is an incredible motivator but flippin kickboxing...ugh!I will like it tho..i will! Thanks againHugsKris.Festival City Concrete <pvisser@...> wrote: kris alcs wrote:> Anyone who likes/does TJ

ehhh... i get mad at him now and then.... he can be quite

thoughtless sometimes :/

i grew up on that stuff and have loved it from first bite! LOL

when my emotions got away on me the other night, i needed my

favourite comfort food.

but i do know how bad it is for me and do try not to eat it very often.

i ALWAYS have a box of it in the house though ;)

i sure did! a really awesome workout today!! so, now i dont feel

so badly about the pretty blue box o kraft anymore :)

thats it, exactly! LOLOL

yeppers!!! thankyou for writing me back... it makes me feel better

to know that my friends here actually care. my dh just does not

give a hoot most of the time!

>I pretty much hate kickboxing though

> but i aim to love it at some point in my life!

OMG! i LOVE to kickbox!! it makes me feel so empowered and strong

and i get out alot of frustrations by punching and kicking. also,

kickboxing is my number 2 calorie burner!!! the elliptical burns

the most, but kickboxing is the next highest (for me).

> I read the billy book which improved my form tremendously

yay! i am so glad that you read it and that it helped so much!

thats fabulous

:*carolyn.
