OOOOOOOOOOHIE!!!what a weekend! My mom visited and treated me for my losses. She got me some smaller jeans some workout clothes and a cute top.She sprung for new workout shoes too and some 5 lb dumbbells (i was a 2lb gal for 3 years and laughed at by EVERYONE now i'm using 5's...what a difference.. i'll probably look back on this 5lb thing and laugh one day )Then my friend Jay who went shopping with us (the same one who bought me the dvds 2 weeks ago....he bought me Yoga Booty Ballet! eeeeeeeeeeeep!! He also got me 2 carmen elektra striptease dvds (only if i promise to show him the fruits of my labor HA! (dudes he was seriously joking!) He also got be a turbo jam dvd (dunno which yet as he hasn't dropped em off). He travels for work and gosh is he hooking me up!! I never thought i'd be excited about getting workouts and exercise stuff THANK YOU so much for the constant motivation and support! I am into week 4 of working out consistently and i've never

lasted this long on the workout portion. I've done 'diets' for longer periods but never coupled with working out. Honestly i miss it on my rest days (is this me?? eeps!) I guess i really needed variety and finding things that work for me (going to the gym couple times a week really helps cuz u can't not work when ur there)BUT the best part of the weekend is that my mom asked if i could help her get started and i introduced her to the basic pilates and watp 1 mile to start with I hope she'll work up to me giving her my 2lb weights in a couple weeks when she visits again :)Shes 60 and has gout so i'm not quite sure what she should be doing workout wise but i figured those two were easy enough and i told her to do the modifications till she feels better about things. Her doc is her best friend so i told her to run them by him before she does it too.EEP! so excited! Kris.My artwork available on cute items

*Applauds* Kris, you're doing GREAT! I'm excited for you for all your gifts, but most of all for the fact that you're now looking forward to your workouts. Isn't that just the most fantastic (and weird) feeling in the world? I was a totally committed couch potato my whole life up to last year, so I can relate. <G> At four weeks of sticking to it, you've passed one of the golden moments-- the " it takes three weeks to build a habit " one. And also, it takes about that long for a person's body to sorta wake up and smell the dumbbells, if they haven't been working out. You'll see even more dramatic changes now, I'm certain.

LOL at the Carmen Electra workouts. DH and I were at Blockbuster a couple of days ago, and I picked them up and showed them to him. His first comment, " I don't like her-- " " But, she'd teach ME how to do this. "

" Do what? " " Lap dance and strip. " And the lightbulb finally went on in the male brain. ;-)I'm especially excited that your Mom is interested in working out, too. You should be very proud of that, too, that she sees the changes in you so clearly that she wants to join you. Sounds like you've given her very sound advice on starting, with her conditions. I applaud both of you!

Keep us posted on how you (and your Mom!) are doing, and let us know how you like the workouts!High five!Tess

Hi Kris!

What a wonderful, supportive mom you have a Jay sounds like a great friend too! What fun gifts!!

I wanted especially to comment on getting excited about workouts and exercise: YOU ARE NOT ALONE! :-) I'm not sure when I joined this group but it is probably 5 or 6 months ago, maybe longer. I started out just wanting advice on home workout videos since I was interested in trying that but didn't know about any. I got a few and exercised off and on, like I've always done, but not consistently. Finally, on of all days, Christmas Day 2006, I got serious. I don't know why that day but we had a few hours between present opening at our house and my in-laws so I did a workout. DH was home that whole week so I took advantage of having him around to interact with the kids and disappeared each day to exercise. I was totally hooked and felt more committed than I ever had been, I think because I felt so great doing it, especially during the holiday season! (I ended up losing something like 2 or 3 lbs over the holidays instead of gaining too!) I also decided not to burn myself out like I ALWAYS have done before (going really intense and then feeling like I can't keep it up so why do anything at all) and told myself I'd do 3 workouts per week, more if I could in January. I also gave myself permission to work out at low to moderate intensities instead of all out killing myself. That worked great! For some reason, giving myself permission to go low is like turning on the high switch. I don't *have* to kill myself, I can go slow down anytime, but it finally feels good to work hard! And on days I really need a lighter pace, I allow it without feeling like I'm wimping out or not doing "enough." At least I'm doing something and it feels great!

February was a really challenging month for a lot of reasons but I'd decided at the end of January that I'd do 4 workouts per week in February. I made it but because it was so challenging I told myself to do 4 a week again in March and reevaluate later. I've done mostly 5 per week, with last week being only 4 (would have been 5 but my 5th day got messed up so I did a very light "house cleaning" workout that day). I am absolutely loving the results of the work and best of all, I'm finally loving the work itself!!! I've found workouts I really enjoy doing, many of them quite intense now, and am always reading this group looking for more I'd like to try. It is so different from the way I've felt about exercise previously (gotta kill myself to make it worthwhile then not do it again for a long time, repeat) and I'd like to think it is a real habit at this point. I miss it when I don't workout, especially more than 1 rest day in a row! Will wait a few more months before I formally declare it a habit, if I declare it too soon I'll back off, I don't know why, but I just will. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that I am celebrating with you partly because I know how exciting it is. It is fun to read another person's thoughts about being closer to the beginning of this journey (like me) too! Btw, I just bought myself new workout clothes (I deserved it, my old sweats were really demotivating) and shoes (my feet hurt and thanked me for good shoes) in January. Those things helped me stick with my workouts and make them more fun! I also upgraded my 3 lb dumbbells to 5s and am thinking about getting some 8s soon too!! That is so fun in such a weird (for me) way! I was never a real couch potato but definitely a very inconsistent athlete for the last 18 years (ever since graduating from college and working behind a desk for years).

Getting your mom excited about it and trying something too is so wonderful!! I'm hoping my excitement will brush off on a few (unfit) people around me too. So far it isn't but hopefully it will by my just being an excited, healthy, fit example. It is really great that you and your mom can start to share this healthy obsession too! Congratulations on your wonderful gifts and especially, your wonderful attitude! It was lots of fun to read your post!

Cheering for you,

Thank you nancy aww girly this email made me tear up! a heartfelt thank you. The community i find here is just so freaking amazing! Mom is amazing and so is Jay. They might as well be best friends too. Tons of love all around. Just great people. I decided some years ago that i dont need a ton of people in my life just a genuine few who matter. Getting excited about workouts is WEIRD. I sometimes awake at weird hours and find myself running through a routine in my head and i'm entertaining the idea of designing a short fun effective workout where the energy is crazy and also distracting enough so that it goes by fast and proposing it to my gym when i get 'thinner' thats just NUTS!Congratulations on keeping up with the working out! I love what you said about not burning out. Just take it as it comes and not pushing yourself too much, just enough. This is so exciting and 'confirming' to hear you saying everything about your exercising - i too freak if i take more

than one rest day in a row! It feels unnatural! It is an exciting place to be but i also dont want to declare it a habit yet because i feel like i'll jinx it and quit - i just know me! too many 'oh u look greats' and i want to hide again. I think what i get here is the ' great on the working out ' is way more powerful and motivating and encouraging than 'you look thinner' you know? Quality stuff.Congrats on ur new workout shoes and clothes! Makes a HUGE difference ay?I am loving this and i'm loving that you are loving it too! Wheeee! I walked the labyrinth this morning (ancient meditation tool thing) and i feel so positive i wanna scream and jump up lol your email makes me REALLY feel like doing this too. Thanks :D:D:DWhich are your fave workouts?I'd be lost without walk away the pounds but i really love the yoga booty ballet and slim in 6. I'm working on Turbo Jam to see if i like it but i really like the instructor Chalene shes awesome and

inspiring!I'm so glad i'm on this journey with you and all the amazing people in this group!Everyone is so flippin great it must be all these endorphins lolHugs Kris.nancydewolf <nancydewolf@...> wrote: Hi Kris! Hi ya Kris!!

Isn't this the greatest place! You've got great people in your life too so and that is wonderful.

I don't usually design routines in my head but I'm always thinking about when I can fit in a workout next (my schedule is different from day to day so it isn't usually at a consistent time) and what I want to do!

I took a rest day yesterday because our schedule was nuts and haven't had a chance yet today either. It is after 6:30 PM but I'm hoping to get downstairs for at least a quick workout in about a half hour. Just gotta push my butt off this couch...

Isn't it strange how "you look great" sends us off the deep end? You'd think we'd be so excited to hear it but a lot of people, especially as they are losing, don't want to hear it because they're afraid they'll give themselves permission to stop because, after all, they look great NOW (even if they could look and feel a lot better if they keep going). I agree with you that the encouragement on the working out is much more motivating. I've lost weight before. I've even kept it off before. I have never worked out consistently except when I was in college and that was 20 years ago. Encouragement on keeping up with something that is so much harder for me is really meaningful. I'm also at the point in my weight loss journey that I'm maintaining and hearing how good I look is really nice but when my WW leader noticed my arms were getting more defined, now that was really cool!!! :-)

I have an opportunity (as long as it isn't raining or snowing) next weekend to walk a labyrinth as part of a retreat I'm taking part in (which is actually part of a class I've been taking). I've never done it but I've been interested. It sounds very peaceful and combining meditation/prayer with walking sounds quite interesting to me. I'm glad to hear it was such a positive experience for you!

Favorite workouts: If you haven't already noticed, I seem to be Sansone's #1 fan in this group anyway! :-) I do a lot of her workouts because I'm so uncoordinated and I can make them as easy or as hard as I want and get a great workout without hurting myself. When I told my SIL (who I truly love, we took a step class together for years and it was her that first got me to try it with her) that I'd signed my DD up for a combo ballet/tap class her comment wasn't wow that's great, she must be really excited (kid's been talking about it for 2 years now) it was, "I hope she's more coordinated than you are!" Anyway, I really like 's 4 Mile Super Challenge and I'm getting a lot of use out of her 5 Mile Advanced Walk. I'm going to treat myself to the new Walk Slim collection very soon. convinced me to try Walk & Kick which I really enjoy too and I also do Walk Strong and the 3 Mile Express tape often too and I like her You Can! Do Pilates (which I used as an introduction to pilates). Besides , I like step videos but they have to have very simple choreography or I fall on my face. Kari 's Go: Step is a good one for me. Kathy has a good one too but it is more challenging. Need to do that one again soon. I just conquered her Matrix Method Power Walk for Weight Loss and that one is excellent (but it is more very uncomplicated but fast aerobics/circuit training than it is walking). I've done TJ Learn & Burn once and really liked it a lot, Chalene was super! Need to do it again soon. I've started doing yoga mostly in a local class but have Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss with Suzanne Deason and like that. Toning favorites are 10 Minute Solutions: Target Toning for Beginners and I Want That Body (Tamilee Webb) which is not for beginners but I'm doing well with it. I'm looking for more toning and cardio/tone workouts. I've thought about the Slim in 6 videos. I have the stretch one and like it. Now that I've written about workouts, I think I need to go do one. The kids are playing the DH is watching TV. I need to move my body!

I'm so glad you're having fun and joined in the party with us Kris, it is fun reading your posts and it is great having someone else who is still relatively new to the workout world with me!! :-)
