I posted this a few weeks ago. I make these every Sunday for the week.

They are " cutable " and I wrap them individually and put them in the

pantry for my husband and I to grab.

This recipe is from Carole Ingram, I have never tried another because I

like it so much. The peanut butter on top makes these really yummy!

Vanilla or Chocolate Protein Bar

Recipe Yields 10 Protein Bars (I cut mine in to 12)

Cost per serving: $0.50 to $0.75

Ingredients:

3 1/2 cups oatmeal (traditional, slow cook)

1 1/2 cups powdered non fat milk

1 cup sugar free syrup (I used Log Cabin)

2 egg whites

1/4 cup orange juice

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 c. natural unsweetened applesauce

4 scoops whey protein powder

Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Mix all dry ingredients in bowl

and blend well. In separate bowl, combine egg whites, orange juice,

applesauce and the sugar-free syrup. Blend well. Stir liquids into dry

ingredients until mixed. The consistency will be thick and similar to

cookie dough. Spread batter in a 9 " x 12 " baking dish. Bake until edges

are crisp and browned (approximately 20 minutes). Cut into 10 bars and

store in an airtight container or freeze.

NOTE: Before eating, spread 1 tbsp of Natural Peanut Butter mixed with

Splenda (for cooking) to taste. This protein bar by far is much better

then store bought! You could also use Sugar Free Fruit Preserve of your

choice! P.s. Do not add additional protein powder to this recipe, it

will not work very well. You could eat a protein bar for breakfast along

with a few egg whites on the side (for a well-balance carb/protein

breakfast).

Happy New Year!

To each and everyone of you. It's a day late, but comes with best

wishes for all. B.B.

Thank you for the recipe.

Can you tell me what consistancy they have. i find a lot of homemade

protein bars don't firm up and congeal well.

Thanks,

When they are unbaked, they are like sticky cookie dough, they spread

nice in the pan but you have to use a spatula. When they are baked they

are not dry but moist and brownie like. I can eat them while driving

the car, no problem, no fork, no mess.

Happy New Year!

Hi anyone know if these can be cooked in a microwave?

I am looking for a recipe for a protein bar that does not have to be

baked. I did see a " no bake " one but it calls for sugar-free syrup

which I can't buy here.

I bought a vast tub of vanilla protein powder mainly to use for baking

and so far haven't used it!

Thanks

I love this recipe. Our whole family loves this recipe. Do you

know the calories/fat/carbs for this off the top of your head?

This is what I came up with on Fitday:

10 portions

200 calories

2.3g fat

29g carb

16g protein

12 portions

167 calories

2g fat

24g carb

13g protein

Happy New Year!

I ran this thru my Mastercook and it doesn't have sugar free syrup,

so add that in but here are the stats for 12 servings.

Add in PB if you spread it on. I increased the servings to 16 and

got it to: Per Serving (excluding unknown items): 185 Calories; 2g

Fat (7.7% calories from fat); 17g Protein; 25g Carbohydrate; 2g

Dietary Fiber; 4mg Cholesterol; 141mg Sodium. Exchanges: 1 Grain

(Starch); 0 Lean Meat; 0 Fruit; 0 Fat. I'll probably use a cookie

scoop and try to make it 16 big cookies. It still needs more

protein though, maybe another scoop of protein?

The author of this recipe specifically said don't add more protein

powder to it. Sometimes I eat them with a boiled egg white. Usually I

just eat them as is with a little PB on top, I'm not carb sensitive.

They are usually my pre-workout food so I don't get queasy.
