Guest guest
, Are you training for a specific sport or is your only goal to jump higher at this time? Also, have you measured your strength deficit? This will help you know whether you should be training explosively or for overall strength gains... a great article on the subject is here: <http://www.intensitymagazine.com/01-15-02/erick_colbert.html> [Actually, it would help if the author cited those of us who have written texts on the issue of strength deficit, because he doesn't distinguish between strength deficit and explosive strength deficit, for a start. He also fails to mention that there are at least four different ways of executing the vertical jump test (with or without arm swing). One needs to be very cautious when trying to popularise what others have written -- or at least quite directly from their work. His article on the strength deficit test simply tried to repeat the single example that authors such as Zatsiorsky and I cite, namely the vertical jump. What about other muscle groups and different types of strength and power deficit? I discussed some of the differences some months ago when I described several different types of standing press and push press, as well as different types of halted and ballistic squat - see our archives. That article may seem to be great, but it is simplistic and missing a great deal. Mel Siff] Sincerely, Grant Hansen Asst.
