Guest guest
, I would like to share with you the idea that a big part of doing BFL is a positive attitude and goal setting. In your post you said: " I tried starting BFL once again " and " I just can't get my eating right " and " I can't control myself " All of those statements are negative rather than positive. Of course you can't do it if that is what you are telling yourself. You don't wasnt to TRY BFL you want to DO it. You CAN get your eating right - it isn't rocket science and it just takes a little practice. You CAN control yourself because you want to attain the goals youset for yourself. Just hang in there and keep going. YOu CAN accomlish anthing you set your mind to. What's wrong with you? Nothing that a litle positive self talk and self love can't cure. Guest guest
I know exactly where you are coming from ! It is a hard demon to beat for sure. For me changing my lifestyle came about after hitting rock bottom and having the doctor saying I would have diabetes in 5 years if I didn't change my lifestyle. Bottom line is you have to want it bad enough and finding that is by looking deep within yourself and coming up with why you really want to change. You have to put those goals and reasons ahead of the food. I know it isn't easy (at all!) and you will have times that you slip up but here are some things that have made my journey of weight loss successful this time around. 1. Exercise. I see exercise as a MUST and one must be in the hospital to miss such an event To me it is like brushing your teeth in the morning. How did I get to this point: I see the same people at the gym every day and trust me they wonder if you have fallen off the wagon when you don't come and I started saying hi to those people so at least I feel like I know them. 2. Consistency. When I screw up I get right back on the horse. Before I would take an all or nothing approach and if I screwed up at breakfast I would eat bad all day. Not now it doesn't matter how bad the screw up I am back on track right away. This took some time but eventually my screw ups became less and less as I got into the habit of living BFL every day for the rest of my life. 3. Better Attitude. I am positive and really believe I can make a transformation this time around. I have not followed anything as faithfully as I have followed BFL for over a year and half now. I still have 40 more pounds to go and I lose slow but it will come. I don't dish myself anymore I am proud of what I have accomplished and I tell myself that everyday and so do my new smaller size jeans! <smile>. 4. Success. I don't judge my success by the scale anymore. I judge by many things such as have I been journaling, drinking my water, clothes fitting nicer, how much I am enjoying life! You notice willpower has nothing to do with success I have none of that either especially when there is a chocolate cake in front of you I will still eat a bite just not the whole cake now You can do this ! Guest guest
Hi , I am all too familiar with that crazy food-driven place. It¹s especially difficult when there are high emotions around. When it takes hold I always think I¹m doing something wrong, there¹s something wrong with me and it can be hard to even believe it can ever change, but it can. It¹s not that I don¹t have will power, but there is an imbalance going on that¹s fueling the drive to eat. For me it¹s when my eating is out of balance and is too high in simple carbs. I eat them and want to eat more and more, it¹s a vicious cycle. It takes me about 3 days of really clean eating for that drive to begin to quiet and before I know it I feel better and in more control. I¹ve been following the suggestions of Hussman, hussmanfitness.org and logging my food on fit day. He has a lot of good info on tearing apart what isn¹t working to find the problem. I¹m keeping my protein and healthy carbs up and no sugar/simple carbs allowed right now, so on and so on. I¹m sure I¹m insulin resistant at the least and I¹m am just sensitive to high glycemic food. I don¹t know if this is the same for you but the way you describe it is exactly how I¹ve felt so many times. It also took cleaning out the junk from my kitchen, shopping for healthy food, despite my son¹s grumbling (I know he¹ll live!). I had to do it for me. Also, you are making progress with your workouts so give yourself credit where credit is due. It took me a couple of weeks to put this together and get both the exercise and food working together. Guest guest
Just keep moving forward. Don't look back too long at that Snickers bar that you ate. Just chalk it up to lessons learned and make sure the next meal is authorized. I have to keep all the unauthorized food in my house in cupboards or in a colored containers so that i can't see them. I am too compulsive and will eat everything. EVERY-THING. Don't start, stop, start, stop, on and on just because of one mistake. When you find yourself eating something you know is not healthy for you (and it's one of those " dang, I'm not supposed to have this! moments) throw it away, right then. Take it out of the wrapper and toss it into the nastiest garbage bin you can find. And remind yourself that you're learning, you're practicing and that you'll get it. Just keep going. Guest guest
Thanks Deb! It has taken me many years of not achieving my goals to get to this point in my life. But the tortoise always finishes the race and is the ultimate winner Michele T. On Mon, 23 Jan 2006 00:37:38 -0000 " Debra " <dcoolmail@...> writes: > Excellent response . Guest guest
> > I tried starting BFL once again two weeks ago, and I thought > I was all set, but two weeks later, I just can't get my eating > right. Its all about mindset and NOT making this into a diet of 'something to do', but making this is a lifestyle change. Start off in small steps. You dont have to go gungho. You are doing the exercises so now step it up with the eating part - start of small like looking at portion control. Seek balance in your foods. Then while eliminating some foods try adding in others that are better choices. If you make this a 'diet' you are doomed to lose the weight and then gain it all right back. Its not really that hard to lose weight, but it *is* hard to keep it off if you dont make permanenet changes. joni ----------------------------------------- *A year from now you may wish you had started today*
Guest guest
Hi , 'Food craziness' - I'm not sure which group came up with the HALT acronym. Are you eating because you're Hungry, Angry, Lonely or Tired? Carbohydrates, especially, can function as anesthetics in our body due to the cortisol reaction. If you are emotion eating, no willpower in the world will help. Only recognizing and accepting your emotions will help that one! (I speak from experience . . ) A little exercise that helped me comes from Zen (and I've probably mangled it) - when anything emotional comes along, don't fight it or stuff it. Just look inward and SEE it - maybe it's anger or jealousy or anything else. Say " I see you, my little emotion. You are a part of me. I know you are there. You are OK. I am OK with you being there. I do not have to act on you, but you are a part of me and I want to know myself. I see you and I know you. " Accept your emotions, allow yourself to feel - do something about the cause, if necessary. Emotion is information about your environment and motivation to do something about it - just as pain when you're burned is information (and motivation!) about your environment. To 'stuff' emotion is like keeping your hand in a flame! Make sure you're following the clean eating (as much as possible, no processing) guidelines and eating 5-6 times a day. Don't restrict your calories too much (the purpose of palm/fist measurements) or you WILL trigger cravings as your body starts to eat off all that nice muscle tissue you worked so hard to get ON. Others have mentioned the support website <www.hussmanfitness.org>; it is a great resource. Lots of nice women on this board (maybe some men too) who are giving great advice! Guest guest
, I'm sorry to hear about your cousin. Give yourself some time to grieve and to take care of yourself. About the eating situation. My best advice for you is to change your vocabulary. If you keep telling yourself that you have no will power and that you " can't get my eating right. " You never will. Would you tell me that I have no will power if I were having food issues? Most people wouldn't. We speak to others nicer than we do to ourselves. Give yourself a break by being more kind. You will be amazed how much better you WANT to eat and take care of yourself when you say and think things that are kind. Of course you can do this because your life matters. You already stated that you know what to do, so get it down on paper...get a plan and just work on today. TODAY...not tomorrow, just today. Be good to yourself and check in and let us know how you're doing. dj > > I tried starting BFL once again two weeks ago, and I thought I was all set, but two weeks later, > I just can't get my eating right.
